IMO, the Hawks are stacked with middle 6 wingers...Saad, Perlini, Kubalik, Caggiulla, Sikura. Who is the Donskoi equivalent on Defense??
- EnzoD

Living in your time zone I don't think you need me, anyone or the fancies to tell you Donskoi is a hockey player, period. Assume you've seen a good bit of SJ.... Head up, poised, unrushed, right side of the puck, shows everything one needs to see he's been coached up since he was a mite and has a high IQ, good size and speed.

Hawk middle 6? No doubt better than anyone on your list save for maybe Saad and has proven so. We're not talking about potential with this player.

I'll repost a part of the descrition and that will answer your question as far as his defense and let LBR answer if anyone in the league had a better expected goals rate.

The Sharks had a 58.2 percent expected goals rate with Donskoi on the ice last season as a result, the highest on the team and 4.4 percent better than when he was on the bench.

Agreed Rico. Donskoi fell into Deboer's doghouse and never got his game going last year. He brings a lot of solid attributes to a 3rd line.

STANBO with another great trade..Forsling and Forsberg = Hawks scraps for a legit NHL dman. Finally one of the "Hawks scraps for a solid player" trade proposals came to fruition!!!

Hossa was a beast, class act etc.
We miss him big time

- Hawkster

In many ways, I always kind of thought he was the "straw that stirred that drink". If he was still able to lace 'em up, I think he'd still be one of the best players on the ice most nights.

Now I'm a little more annoyed they picked up Maatta for Kahun. There's no need for him if they were able to get De Haan for Forsberg+Forsling. Would have prefered:

Keith-Jokiharju
De Haan-Murphy
Gus-Seabrook

No need for Maatta.

Same.

Shame, his AAV is almost the same as Anisimov's
Although this looks like almost a pure cap dump from Carolinas perspective...
Not complaining though, we need real defensive d-men

Dude, this is shaping up like a team with a chance, especially if Crow playes 55 games. Why do you want to get rid of a 60 point Dman who is a PP specialist? ....... And who's your 3C. I'm all for moving AA IF IF and only IF you have a replacement.

Unless it's for a really good forward, idk about trading Gus. The defense is already lacking offense - it was be depleted without Gus.

Too many bodies on the backend, unless Seabrook is going to be a healthy scratch at $7mil??

Only way they move Anisimov is if they want Dach at Center and he starts at 3C....

I hope not - he was quite strong defensively last season. Partnered with say De Haan and they could actually be a more shutdown type of pairing.

NOTE - De Haan had shoulder surgery this summer

https://www.espn.com/nhl/...martinook-de-haan-surgery

"RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook and defenseman Calvin de Haan both have had offseason surgery.

General manager Don Waddell said Tuesday that Martinook had a procedure on a core muscle, while de Haan's surgery was on his right shoulder.

Martinook is expected to recover in four to six weeks, while de Haan will be out four to six months.

Martinook, 26, had a career-best 15 goals with five game winners, and was in and out of the lineup during the playoffs due to injuries. De Haan, 28, injured his shoulder against Pittsburgh on March 31 but returned for Game 4 of the first-round playoff series against Washington."
