I would love to see Panarin back but the question comes in as how that would work. - gifman
You can bet Kane will be in the room when they discuss a reunion. Add Panarin and Anders or Pavelski. The top 2 lines/PK would be lethal. |

Murphy only has value if somebody wants to swallow that multi-year cap hit. He is probably worth more to the Hawks at this point since the only way they have a viable replacement is if Boqvist is ready, (and he probably won't replace the defensive blue line that Murphy provides). Ditto Anisimov - I'd be surprised if there is a big market at his cap hit. I would not trade Saad - it will leave a hole they have nobody to fill.
As for Gustafsson, though his low cap hit probably makes him easier to move, he too is probably worth more to the Hawks than what they'll receive in return. - jrsamu
Check out what 2nd pairing RH DMen are getting paid in Capfriendly and what the new contracts are looking like. I think plenty of teams would look at Murphy's $3.85mil for 3 years reasonable, cost controlled for 3 years, and perhaps even attractive. I think he is worth that to the Hawks until you find a better player and that better player will not come cheaply. |

RFA status per Powers is below.
Working on a contract: Perlini, Sikura, Kampf, Quenneville
Extended a qualifying offer: Forsberg, Forsling, Edjsell (back to SHL though)
Not extended a qualifying offer: Hillman, Louis
Unknown: Johnson - L_B_R
I was close. I thought Hillman may be on the outs. I just thought because he's buddies with Ian Mitchell that they may keep him and stash him in Indy of the ECHL if needed. |

Ferland is what hawks need ? Is can he stay healthy. - Scott1977
The Canes reportedly offered Ferland a $6mx5 year deal and he decided he wanted to test the open market to get more/longer term. Do you want to give him Saad money when he doesn't score as much, isn't even close to as good defensively, and doesn't play on the PK? |

I must be missing something here. The Canes seem to have cap space. So why do they want to deal either one of those D-Men? Certainly not for AA. They give up the better player and cap trade off is minimal. Is it a cap related move or are they trying to get better? - onehundredlevel
Some of the smaller market/revenue teams set their own cap limit far below the NHL cap limit. It would not surprise me for Carolina to only get to the $75mil level. Then if they feel they have a chance at the deadline they could take on a rental.
Bingo what says you?

There is zero chance of getting both Panarin and Pavelski due to the cap.

The UFA class for forwards is a little better than normal but the quality guys are going to get crazy paid and there aren't many that are defensively strong. Guys I wouldn't mind on the Hawks are below.
Top 6: Panarin (expensive), Lee (expensive), Pavelski (term issue), Zuccarello* (term issue), Nyquist (term issue)
Middle 6: Dzingel, Johansson, Donskoi
Bottom 6: Tanev*
*Player play on the PK |

Dzingel is the only one I’d have an issue with because I think his last year (Ottawa) was more of a flash in the pan than who he really is.
Don’t want to be paying $5-$6 mil annually on an extended term for him. |

Been trying to think of another forward besides Hossa that was signed as UFA at 29/30 for term that can be considered a good signing. Let's set the term at 4-5 for discussion purposes. I am talking about a player that changed teams. |

I think his last season was an outlier, so I'm not too into him for what his amount likely will be. |

Do they have the corresponding slow-mo of the DOPS explanations for highlights that ended in suspension?

I think Dzingel is somewhere between his other seasons and last year - would be fine for like $5m but only if term is 4-5 tops. I think if he was with say Kane, he'd be closer to last season than not. |

It would have been interesting to see what Hossa would have got with these new rules.
At 29...an 8yr deal for 10-11per?
Or even Keith for that matter |

While there is NO denying that Hossa was a huge signing in regards to the Hawks success, do you factor in the fact that the last four years of the contract are wasted when comparing the signings? |
