He had 46 points last season. I doubt Jake ever scores 46. Jake and Hutton are party boys. Don’t want them polluting the locker room
- CanuckDon

Look at how many points he's scored every other year of his career, I doubt he scores 46 with the Canucks

Seems like a sideways/backward move considering the age/salary difference

People really need to get over Jake’s draft status

Connolly is one of those corsi/playoff run dudes who’s about to get overpaid. If I was a team looking for bottom 6 help, I’d look at whoever is cheapest out of Colin Wilson, Oscar Lindberg and Ryan Carpenter

- Nucker101

But... but... but.....playoffs. Right?

You don’t think those LA and Chicago cup teams were full of frat boys?

He may or he may not. Perhaps he just needed more opportunity. Development isn’t linear

For sure. Doesn’t mean the Canucks should be striving for that kind of locker room. Horvat, boeser, Hughes and Elias aren’t like that

Oh there are plenty of flaws with my fantasy proposal. But, I'd gladly have the problem of having too many good players on the team, that one gets sacrificed to Seattle.

Pulijarvi has not shown he can play in a top 6 imo.
Goldy does not belong on that line with JV and Gaudette either imo.
3 rookie Dmen and 2 on a line is a recipe for disaster, and would mean Hutton is retained.

- dbot

My line-up is flawed agreed. I posted it as a slower go & using what we have to use. Goldy & other youth get the opportunity a year older to prove themselves. It doesn’t look sexy or great.

Carol,

I just saw on The Score that Elliot Freidman wrote that Canucks won't be qualifying Ben Hutton. Do you think it would make sense for the Canucks to do a trade with the Oilers to swap RFA's? Hutton for Puljujarvi?

- Fenywick

Nice idea 👍

Granlund played 219 games for Vancouver, Shinkaruk played 14 games for Calgary.....Im pretty sure thats still a win for Vancouver even when its a pretty inconsequential transaction....
- chompsey

Granlund could get picked up & Shink is AHL fodder.

Did I say that I felt that is was good deal? Is your comprehension skills lacking this morning?

Was commenting on the endless JB bashing...

- chompsey

Bashing is earned but the piling on is relentless. Like you said JB’s good stuff is pushed aside for convenience.

I wouldn’t put Whitey in with the BB’s, he’s more of a keeping it real kinda guy.
- 1970vintage

Whitey has pretty reasonable & subjective posts imo. Ppl like myself look past the negatives once any transaction happens. I look for the silver lining to measure the deal. After some time i pass my own judgement.

In the context of my original post, getting a fair deal isn't playing hardball. I like the deal, he did well; but Edler getting market value on a 2-year deal isn't some home-run win.

Someone said it was time for him to play hardball and I just don't see him as that kind of GM. I have a few areas where I wish Benning was stronger, but overall I have been fine with and understood many of his moves, even when they dont work out

- WhiteLie

I suggested the hardball but didn’t elaborate totally. Contract wise he has been solid. On trades i cannot quite say that lol

You can have the win lol it’s a mean nothing trade to me
- Redmile247

A small win that bought some time. That time won hasn’t amounted to a great deal.

Please dont take this as a criticism at you, but, what I find so (frank)in frustrating is fans hoping the Canucks lose to acquire a potential "star" to get better.

Like they actually cheer for the Canucks to lose.

The team's trajectory is up, so, I applaud the efforts of management to try and supplement that with a strong proven commodity versus a virtual lottery ticket bottom half 1st round pick with no guarantee this pick will become anything.

Obviously it can, but the numbers dont support it. Its a calculated risk that could backfire but the numbers are in the Canucks favor here.

How can you cheer for your team to lose and call yourself a fan? That poop boggles my mind.

If JB signs Myers, so be it. Its not my money and it night just actually help the team. What a novel idea! It could be a positive! it could also blow up, but we will have to wait and see on that.....its not like players improve or anything on a new team ever....

- chompsey

I too knock tankists & think they are not fans. Advocating losing is pathetic.

I want them to lose but be entertaining...

WTF does that say about tankists!

I really like Miller, I think he'll be a great fit and hope, on top of his skill, that he brings a bit of the energy/grit that they lost with Dorsett.

The first rounder stung me for a bit, especially since the conditions were not based on Miller's performance, but ultimately I thought they would need to tank one more year before going for it, so it kinda fits in my expected timeline of getting in once over the next two years. At least now there is some pressure/direction, the last couple seasons have felt like "we might contend, or play kids, we'll see how we feel each week"

- WhiteLie

A good post. JB jumped the gun looking ahead to the e-draft. Getting Miller now is proactive & ballsy with more opportunities coming. If he can maintain our cap advantage other GM’s will call to trade before the e-draft.

I bought into the hype that this was the offseason for predatory deals to be made with cap-strapped teams

I honestly cannot say the price paid for Miller is not high. Especially after saying our cap was a weapon but wasn’t a factor in that deal. It indicates to me the cap space is a weapon if another team wants to be a victim 😂 Still more dominos are yet to fall & time before teams feel the big squeeze when the e-draft is much closer.

I’m a cool cookie normally but my cool is getting nervous if the rumour of Myers & the price has truth.

My knock is he is a good add but overrated at the price he might get. 6m is my top offer. Idk know his mindset or if he wants to be a Canuck & understand we need a good contract if he wants to be part of us getting better. More than 6m will not help us in so many ways that I’ll say now if more JB will be under siege. The kitchen was already hot & all the potential to set on fire.

Myers is 4 D at best unless he proves me wrong.

I'd be happy to add Myers or Gardiner, but the price is a big ?

I think 6m is fair for Myers and probably 7 for Gardiner, who will likely price himself out of our range.
However reports suggest Myers is looking for 7-8m now, which is crazy.

that's when i think you double back and look at Zaitsev, and see if you can add a Conor Brown sweetner to the deal.

Zaitsev is likely a 3-5 Dman on this team, similar to Myers, although doesn't produce the same amount of points.
2 years younger and likely 2-3m/year cheaper over the next 5 years.
If you could get a decent sweetner, I think you have to at least consider that deal.

Nikita Zaitsev and Connor Brown for Ben Hutton or a 4th round pick.
