I wouldn’t put Whitey in with the BB’s, he’s more of a keeping it real kinda guy.

I haven't been around much lately, but I assume its still a daily thing to rip on Benning's track record?

Are you suggesting that had the trade not occurred, Hunter could have played more NHL games in Vancouver?
- 1970vintage

Not where I was going but since you went there yes he would have definitely played more than 14 games or whatever he played

So, as a Flames fan, do you concede the loss, or accept my stance as a wash?

Is games played the measuring stick? Even if most of those games were losses?
- 1970vintage

Yes. Shinkaruk was a bust. Grand has been productive for 100+ games. Easily a win.

And yet he is going to get a contract with the Canucks.
- 1970vintage

Or various other teams. Not that many guys can produce at the nhl level first full year. Defensive liability for sure, but the offensive upside would get a waiver from a lot of clibs imo.

I think, much like JV, he was rushed and it stunted his growth. Needs a change of scenery and different expectations.

Demko had hip surgery, not necessarily a deal breaker

It can seriously impact his skating. He may rebound but he has diminished value for sure because of it

I don’t know, just trying to pick a fight, guess it isn’t working. I mean come on, you have three hours on me, I’ve barely had my first coffee and you're probably already on your third beer.

In the context of my original post, getting a fair deal isn't playing hardball. I like the deal, he did well; but Edler getting market value on a 2-year deal isn't some home-run win.

Someone said it was time for him to play hardball and I just don't see him as that kind of GM. I have a few areas where I wish Benning was stronger, but overall I have been fine with and understood many of his moves, even when they dont work out

Fair enough. I think JB definitely is an old boys club kinda. Word is bond, no shenanigans kinda guy....

Between miller trade and the impending overpayment of myers, there’s not much positive. I for one really like what Miller brings, but now i find myself hoping we don’t make the playoffs next year even though i think this od a bubble team... which kind of sucks. If we made it to the playoffs and pulled a first round upset that could be another positive outcome i guess

Goldy seems like a not bad piece for edmonton too, they need someone on that powerplay and for all his faults he can do that
