A rebuilding team doesn't trade first rounders. A bubble team doesn't trade first rounders.
Jim Benning trades 1st round picks because he knows the canucks are a playoff team about to turn into a contender.
Jim Benning has the balls you lack. Trade the future to build the present. This team is better than last year and way better than 2 years ago.
Plus next year's draft is weak. I'm glad Benning acknowledged that!
He should stay the course and keep trading/signing to make the best possible team next year.

In Benning we trust. #benningisagenius

I'm not sure what he has ever had as an organizational strength.
- manvanfan

Take all of his mistakes on signings & trades & new contracts & we still have some good draftees & big cap space. We improved incrementally each year. If he can improve more i don’t see what is to worry about.

Rick D : looks like leivo will get a qualifier along with goldobin.

JB has done well on contracts to date. I don’t see that changing. Hard ball can come in a few forms. Patience & watch the market play out for starters. His cap is a weapon & GM’s can call him after he puts out some feelers. Time is on his side.
- Nighthawk

that goes for trades as well. he's done well using the cap as a weapon.

you've got a good take!

John Shannon on with Walker and Rintoul: The Edler number came in, when Boesers number comes that will help with a Myers number, but they had what I was told was a very good meeting last night in Vancouver… I don’t think the money is a question, I think it’s the term

- manvanfan

My guess is JB wants 8yrs & BB 5,

It's interesting that literally, every blueliner with a pulse is over-valued on the trade and free-agent market.

..except Ben Hutton.

Sautner Briesbois and Biega are all part of the cap hit . They will be sent down saving 2.3. Spooner will either be sent down or bought out so another mil saved. Eriksson?
- VANTEL

Exactly other than idk about LE. The cap is better than it appears.

Clearly his trading has improved. He out smarted a lot of GM's by offering a 1st round pick. Not many people expected that. He just keeps getting smarter.

That would be the prudent thing to do but clearly they are going all in to be a competitive playoff team this year.
Free agency should confirm our worst fears.

- Marwood

Last season showed we are trending up & should expect even more this season. PO’s is an obvious goal in a weak division. Injuries as usual will be our achilles heal unless we canget more reasonable luck.

Free agency is what it is for every team.

Myers and Miller are exactly what this team needs to make a deep playoff run. Maybe not the cup this year but lets not rule out the following season.

Cap dump & the Hawks solidifying their D is my take on that. Dundon is a cheap mofo & Waddel his puppet. Aho got an insulting offer. It’s a Canes MO to lose players doing that.

he got a utility forward from a team in cap crisis for only a 1st and some guy who'll never make it.

he gets a middle 6 guy for a pick in a weak draft essentially.

all aces for trader jim!

If Myers puts up 30-40 points and Hughes puts up 50-60 is that a problem?
- VANTEL

On Hughes not at all. On Myers that is a HUGE mistake for a weak giant playing D & the anchor contract he would be.

Anyways, why the (frank) would they not offer sheet Kapanen on July 1st if he isn't signed? The kid is 22, just scored 20 goals and 44pts and can outright fly. Rumour has it he's about to sign for 3.1? You can offer 4.1 and only give up a 2nd round pick.

Surely you jest lol
JT is better than the deal appears imo.
Sure the 1st pisses ppl off but that’s for a other day. JB has his job riding on this season.

Maybe teams need to get in on these 5 year cycles a little more. Just give him less money.

The 1st sticks out like a sore thumb.
Forget that for a moment & speak of what we have in JT & how he fits in in the big picture. Separate the player from the pick. Thx

exactly why he should go all in and trade whatever he needs to for barrie.

the canucks will make the playoffs this season and benning should do whatever he needs to do to make it happen.

a contract extension and making the playoffs in the 50th season are the only things that matter.
