So from a what they gave up perspective, if the Canucks pick is not in the top 10 they gave up “less”? I guess we would need to revisit this in a couple years to include the impact that each player had on their new team. Put it in your book

It is a long term thing. Jeremy Davies had a pick value of 58. For the past two years at NE he has been a ppg defensemen. Steve Santini is an already experienced NHL defencemen. So I gave him his actual draft value of a mid-late 2nd round pick.

You claimed that Vancouver gave up 520 points while NJ gave up 680, it's the reverse under your scenario of the finishing 20th.
- golfingsince

NJ gave up pick 222 and if they finish around mid table next season they will give up somewhere around 200 for the other 2nd rounder. They gave up a second round pick in Steve Santini where he was picked was 199 and Jeremy Davies was a 7th round pick valued at 58.

Van gave up pick 169. If they finished 20th in the league they give up a pick value of 350.

222+200+199+58=679

350 + 169+ 519

Give or take a few slots here or there. If NJ finishes 25th their second pick value would drop down by 25 max.

If Van finishes 16 they lose 63 value points if they finish 24th they gain 40 some value points.

Brayden Schenn ended up costing STL pick 14 and 27 in the draft. 456 and 291. Value of 747.

Schenn is better than Miller

UFA interview period started this morning, would not surprise me if the #Canucks show interest in D and Victoria native Jordie Benn.

Chicago just finished 20th in the league and picked 3rd overall. But for arguments sake on that pick we'll say they pick 12th. That pick alone is worth 507 points.

As for the prospects, Santini was drafted in 2013.

That's like saying if we included Gaunce he'd have a value of 275 points.

You're reaching.

Arguably... Not exactly a stone cold fact. Schenn’s career highs came when he was 26, in a new setting/opportunity - what Miller will be this coming season.

Miller is a master of pretty but broken plays. It starts out well, but ends up with a turnover.

I just don't think he fit in with Tampa's system or coach. I expect he will perform better in Vancouver, but that 1st round pick will hang over him unless he pots 50 goals.

From a positive perspective we are moving forward not backwards, we have plenty of good young players and prospects, it is time to build around them with quality nhlers and rid of the so called trash and there is prices to pay. That pick wont be relevant for 5 years probably which by that time we should be competing for a cup or could possibly have 1 by then.

Having 1st round picks tends to help with that.

I want to look at the positives in this situation. Much like Leivo, even more so with Miller is gifted a shot top 3 to prove himself. Let’s hope he is a match and move forward. It takes the right system and chemistry to peak. Finding chemistry is important and Miller’s style does look like a fit. I’m not sold but it looks promising.

They can be busts to, later in the round more so. Time to move forward before petey, hughes,bo,brock, demko, juolevi etc get frustrated from spinning there wheels playing with crap.

To be fair, 36 of those games were on an AV *spits* coached Rangers team which means the game plan was to win 1-0.

(And he was really young for the bulk of those) - can’t speak to what happened in TB after he was acquired & on fire in the regular season.

It really depends on the points value. I mean if you're picking at 12 you might as well trade it for 3 picks in the 70-75 range.

I would trade 3 picks in the 70-75 range to take Krebs and newhook where they were selected

Thx carol. Imo Subban has negative value at a $9MM cap hit. No idea what Jersey was thinking. Subban is declining rapidly. Not sure how you think he is a better acquisition than Miller. Canucks likely overpaid a bit but I’m not stressed about it.

No kidding, it's a shot at the "points system". Who wouldn't trade 15 7th round picks for the 1st overall?

You would think Vancouver was the only team bidding on Miller. People seem to forget there are other teams in the league. Just in case you were wondering

NJ's picks given up and where the players selected are a value somewhere around 680 vs if Vancouver finishes 20th next season the value is somewhere around 520.

160 points difference is pretty much another mid 3rd round pick for Subban.

- manvanfan

Yzerman was in on Miller as well. Sure there were other teams

Benning would never trade up, he puts more value on overagers and 6th round picks
