I dont get it, the nice weather made our hockey team good?
- Mentalorgasm5

No, but maybe it should buoy your(people's in general) mood at least a bit.

Very good years in roch? When? I loved the guy at 18 but he never got better. That was a great trade
- Slump Buster

For "not an offensive defenseman" he had .5 ppg the last 2 years.

Really? Where? They traded him because he was going to cost a lot in his next contract because he is a good d. I was really impressed by him after we got him.
- Slump Buster

No, they traded him because they had to pay the actual good D their money so Montour was the easy choice.

Everyone was impressed. Reminds me of my favourite two and a half men quote (sheen era)

"lights out at fat camp a jelly bean is steak tartare"

Montour can fly, its fun to watch. But the results just aren't really there.

Montour is a made man in this league. Drives play. No mystery here.
- Slump Buster

I'm not sold on Guhle, at all, but he's very, very young, and defensemen take forever in general.

yeah right, it eliminates our need to sign any FA's, free's up a ton of cap space for PGH and let's them explore free agency.

Malkin and Kessel's ages and contracts drive their value low and Botts knows peeps.

- BeadyEyedDouche

A few minutes ago you said cap doesn't matter. You can't have it both ways. Pens would want young prospects and definitely not picks. Sid isn't getting younger.

They traded their good d on very bad trades. They are in full rebuild.

Just because a restaurant doesn't have a good black bean burger doesn't mean they don't have good microwaved wings.

He was completely regressing. Good asset management to move him for a good player. I don't recall any negative reviews of that trade.

That's fine, he's 21. Look, I'm not even a fan of his, but if Murray made the move everyone would be screaming about "speeding up the rebuild".

For now, because they are signed for several more years. Montour was not.

(Shrug) what does that have to do with the quality of the trade?

It screams "I have to do something."

I like Montour more than Guhle. I just think trading young defensemen is a mistake.

It wasn't like guhle was a top prospect. He skates really fast. Other than that, what makes him different than any other d prospect? He was actually passed on our d chart.

yeah if he was better, he'd have been kept and getting the multi year extension. There really isn't much to love about this guy

I am familiar with his work. As he said in the thread be thinks he prefers some of their other d. Boy, you got me on that one. We traded a guy that was struggling in the minors for a top 4 d. Would you have traded nylander and 31 for another top 4 d? I also would (and nylander is worth more than guhle).

You can say that about almost every player traded. Players are traded because teams don't think the guy is worth the money he gets or will command.

He also said the numbers are comparable to zaitsev and doesn't bring much to the table outside primary assists and zone exits.

My point in its entirety is that you don't really need to trade valuable assets for guys like Montour. There a cost effective options for that role every off season.

Primary assists and zone exits are everything that we want risto to be. The guy attacks and tries to drive play. Thats the way the league is moving.

Yeah, but very, very good players get traded all the time for financial considerations. Saying "if he was good, he'd still be there" is disingenuous.
