I think even with the leafs cap struggles right now, every one of us would rather have their forwards than ours. JT, Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Kadri...no wonder they’re in cap hell, they have the deepest forward pool in the league.

That’s a good problem to have.

- rangerdanger94

Alot good that did them in the playoffs. Bounced in the first round. That group above hasnt made it past the second round in the last 3 years. Now Marner will be paid. They will have over 35 mil tied up in 3 players when Marner signs. They need defense. They dont have enough cap room to sign the vending guy let alone a first pair defense man!!

You are completely right. But These players have been together for years. They came up and gelled together while adding younger players as they went along. They didnt add a veteran piece until they were ready to compete. St Louis added ROR, who they stole from the Sabres!!

We just stole Trouba from the Jets!!

The Devils stole PK from the Preds!!

There will always be something to do when the time comes.

What Im saying is let our prospects develop. In 3 or 4 years when our prospects have a few years and we know what we have, then we sign the free agents who will help us then. That free agent we sig Panarin will not help us do anything in the next few years so why bother signing him and wasting the cap space.

- Brukie

I also think that a guy like Panarin will help mentor our young forwards now. They’ll learn how to prepare, how to be pros, how to be successful. All young kids need strong veteran leadership and when that veteran leadership is as skilled as a guy like Panarin then that only makes it better.

I think you missed the point. This debate was Tom asking why the rangers didn’t take marleau off toronto’s books in exchange for a pick. And you literally supported the “short sighted fans that aren’t intelligent’s” argument.
- rangerdanger94

Well put to a "T", (but not "mailman tj's" type of "T's").

The rumors on Panarin are out there, and as long as the Rangers exist, they will be linked to any possible available player the level of a Panarin. That especially so under Dolan's ownership, with MSG having been free of postseason action for not only the Rangers the past two years, but also his dreadful Knicks even longer.

The issue is making the cap space available both current and long term, with Gorton on his way to doing so. In addition, it's not like we still have 6 to 8 players with long term contracts & NMC's on this roster.

In fact, with the exception of one current non roster player in Kravtsov expected to make the pro roster for the start of the season, this team has only 3 other current pro roster players that are signed through the 2021/22 season, in Zib, Fox and Skjei. Furthermore as of today, Skjei is their only player in the entire organization, both pro and non roster, that is signed through the following 2022/23 season, three seasons from now.

With four contracts expiring in two years, how is that creating cap hell. The rebuild was accelerated with the trade for Trouba, addition of Fox via trade and drafting of Kakko. JD knows exactly what he would get in Panarin and said he would be smart with signings. If they do add Panarin, I trust JD’s judgment in doing so.
- airjan23

These kids will not be competing for a Cup in the next 3 to 4 years. Do you agree with that fact? I just dont see how adding Panarin helps us now. If the Kakkos, Foxs, and Kravtsov, Andre Miller and the Shestyorkins excel they will be commanding the dollars in the coming years. Panarins 11 mil cap hit might hinder us as Marleaus cap hit hindered Toronto.

We should copy the Oilers script and just keep tanking and getting young lottery picks and then flip the switch when we feel like it

apparently all these young players are going to do so damn well each one of them will command 11 million a year when their ELC's are done, but we are still going to stink at the same time

Thank you Jim, for having my back in attaching the documented truth of this current three man pro roster effective for the 2021/22 season. The amount of current signed pro and non roster players for the following season in three years from now is even lower, with a total of one, in Brady Skjei. That doesn't speak good as well for their Hartford affiliate.

Maybe some of those worried about the cap still think this is 2013/14, in having signed long term here in key, Hank, Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Nash, and company.

I really liked the draft. Thought they did a good job at getting speed and skill. Dave Reid was raving about Hendrickson, which I was happy about because that was the one pick that seemed a lil bit off the board.

Not to upset about no trades, these teams all wanted to wait it sounds like. Wait for July 1 to pass to see who got who and who didn’t.

I wonder if Roberson was the pick they would’ve wanted at 20, then to get him at 49 is pretty damn good.

You got contracts coming off, not every pick we got is going to pan out. Panarin is a no brainer. Dude will easily be our most talented winger and a mentor for Buch, Kratsov, and the rest of the commies

That's center, Karl "Henriksson" in their overall pick #58.

Miller, Lundquist, Robertson and several others will most likely be starting their elc's as Kravstov and Kakko finish. They can essentially roll those elc contracts.

Stated another way, the Rangers have enough prospects that they'll be able to constantly have several elc's on the roster for the next 5 to 6 plus years. That's huge in the modern nhl. HUGE!

The interesting thing about the dmen is that we now have 4 to protect in the expansion draft, so having as much insurance there as possible isn't a bad thing.

Hey boys!
Busy weekend, but I’ve been trying to keep track. Pretty friggin’ excited!!!
Haven’t had time to read through all the complaints about Tom yet, but I just wanted to say:

The Rangers are in a really good spot as they look to leave the rebuilding phase and start competing again.

Chris Peters of ESPN, I wanna take you out behind the middle school and get you pregnant!!

I think we did really well, always gonna be questions in the later rounds but I trust our scouts, we didn't go way off the board with a Lindbolm this year and didn't have holes to fill

pretty much the opposite of going off the board when it comes to Matthew Robertson

they took a guy who kept dropping, ranked a lot higher than where they ended up getting him

Another things is that IF NYR sighs Panarin, his contract won't be horrible to manage b/c by the time many of the kids come of ELCs, Hank, Staal, Shatty, Smith contracts will all be done, either through trades or them simply expiring.
