As I just posted on the last blog without knowing this one was up:

If I was Stan I would not have done any of the deals. We couldn’t t afford Subban, Marleau is being bought out, that is $6.25 against the cap, but unlike LTIR you cannot accrue cap space overage, and JT Miller for a first, as much as I like Miller is a little too rich for me.

What would a trade look like between hawks and vegas? Obviously eakin then who knows and what goes back on the hawks side?
- Scott1977

Hey Scott - Vegas is obviously looking at a lot of options.

The guys I mentioned in the blog are ones I've identified as possibilities.

Another one I just heard was Marchessault. I don't see the Golden Knights moving him, but they will need to get creative.

Exactly. Toronto got off cheap is my point. Good move from their side. The Canes got hosed.
- Elbows15

I'm with you on this don't understand why Carolina did this. They are responsible for the whole cap hit I believe. You were just in the final 4 why not make the Leafs pay with a player that can help you. Not a player who may help 5 or 6 years from now.

I still like my trade proposal from the other thread:

Chicago receives:

Eakin 3.85
Tuch 4.75
Miller 3.875
Clarkson 5.25

17.725 mil total contracts

Vegas Receives:

AA 4.55
Forsling
Nalimov / Forsberg
Pick or additional prospect

4.55 mil total contracts
————
Hawks would take on 13.175 in salary, of which 9.1 mil falls off the books in 2020. Leaving is on the hook for 4.075 mil long term, a legit winger in Tuch and good RD in Miller. It also allows Dach another season to do his thing in the WHL, and not rushing him to the show.

Vegas wouldn't want Anisimov - they have Cody Glass ready to break into the NHL to take over 3C when Eakin leaves. I doubt they will part with Tuch - they'll find another way.

They don’t have to keep AA, they can flip him for a pick.

There is blood in the water, and Stan will not be the only shark circling Vegas as well as the other teams in cap hell. As such, ideas of getting Tuch and Miller for a 7th round pick need to end. There will be competition for assets-Islanders, Canucks, Ottawa-NVM Ottawa will not spend money-Flyers- all have room and all may be bidding on the better assets, meaning getting rid of cast-offs for proven players probably will not work. The teams will still get "pennies on the $", but I sense the deals will not be as lopsided as people may assume they would be.

So then you’re suggesting Tuch and Miller for a 6th?

There is much excitement and high potential for both Dach and Vlasic. For good reason, too, so I spent a better part of Saturday reading up on and watching videos of the other draft picks.

Michal Teply was described in one report as a possible Poor Man's Laine with his heavy shot and scoring ability. Mixed reviews on whether he applies himself consistently and pushes the pace. When he is on, though, his compete level is there particularly in key situations like the PP and clutch times to get a GTG or GWG.

Hopefully Teply can break the mold of Blackhawks draft picks of big forwards who just don't develop well. Tyler listed many of them in his blog: Knott, Bondra, Radke, J Dahlstrom, Iacopelli, Starrett, Olofsson, Hayden, Calnan, McNeill, etc. Teply could end up being a boon or bust pick.

Antti Saarela reminds me a lot of Jacob Nilsson: high compete level, physicality, and decent skill but a hockey IQ that could be much better. If he ever makes it, he could be an agitating 4th liner likely as a winger but can also play center.

There's not much I could find online about goalie Dominic Basse. The last few times the Hawks have drafted huge goalies were Wouter Peeters and Brandon Whitney. Peeters has been less than motivated at prospect camps the previous two summers and has done very little to improve his stock. Whitney played a few ECHL season after juniors but seems to be out of hockey now.

A simple analysis shows that the past several backup goalies and top goalie prospects have either been free agents (Raanta, Delia, Lankinen) or acquired after other teams had drafted them (Emery, Darling, Forsberg). Then there are has beens and never will bes (Simpson, Tomkins, potentially Nalimov too).

Like Teply for big forward draft picks, hopefully Basse can break the mold for netminders. Let's hope playing in the NCAA at Colorado College will boost his development and amp his stock.

Cole Moberg has some potential as a big, physical RHD. However, like Teply, some mixed reviews on his compete level and consistency. Overall, seems like a major work in progress.

Apparently he also had considerable experience playing forward this past season with his junior team so not sure if that's a leverage point for the Hawks to convert him to wing if being a defenseman at the pro level isn't in the cards.

Well now that the 2019 giraffe & goon draft is out of the way, can we start winning some damn hockey games now?

No. We're merely waiting to hear who the new consensus #1 pick is in 2020 so we can start a new hashtag like #LoseForHughes and start tanking accordingly

Stan's to do list.
-Sign Perlini, Kampf, Sikura, Quennville
-Qualify Forsberg
-Move AA after paying bonus (I am ok with keeping him, but most think he is a goner)
-Complete major trade with Vegas (not sure of pieces going either way, but would assume Forsling and maybe even Forsberg are part of the package after they are signed and qualified.)
-Sign an FA for short term and reasonable price for 4th line (Tanev?)
-Make one more fairly small trade taking on a contract dump that has one year left for a package that includes receiving a 1st or 2nd next year.
-Somehow add a top 4 Dman. (last on my list, but pretty important (maybe McNabb or Miller as part of the Vegas trade).

Q is soo close infact. He is likely right there if you are willing to give him a real start in the NHL. He is loud and infectious in a good way so he should be immediately liked and also he has some leadership qualities from captaining a few good Wheatkings teams. He also isnt afraid to stand up for a team mate or himself but he wont be going out looking for it ever.

>>>We'll see if Stan adds some toughness in the form of a 12th or 13th forward<<<

Ryan Reaves from the knights....come on over...

hawks send a pick or 2..knights eat half his salary

tough guy (or jerkbag) problem solved...

- bogiedoc

I have really been on this guy since it was suspected we would be takong Hughes.

Everyone says whats he going to do when he gets hit welk having Reaves on the bench is going to make a lot of guys think twice about the kind of contact they will want to be making on our young star.

If you guys land him though I wont be to upset as I still got high hopes for Kurtis Gabriel being the heavyweight king in the NHL soon just needs to work on his skating..... Alot lol

Think so?

I thought a having to include a 1st round pick to get rid of a guy with 1 year left is steep.

Looking ahead, it really hinders the Leafs at the TDL next year if they are in the hunt and looking to add a key piece - they wouldn't have a 1st rounder to include to acquire a big fish for the playoffs like they did this year and the Hawks did a few times during their run(s).

- Tyler Cameron

Top ten protected though. I think it would of been better if they where forced to move out a young guy vs a total uknown commodity that could allow them to get away with losing nothing but a potential bust pick.

Im still hoping NJ can swing another big deal with their cap space for a scoring winger. Find away to get Ehlers or Tuch.
