LOL

“I am outraged that the 18-year-old I never saw play who a mock draft told me to like wasn’t the pick in favor of another guy I never saw play who that same mock draft told me about”

Last Word Hockey on Brink’s skating

Skating

Brink’s skating is good but there is still room for improvement in a number of key areas. His speed is slightly above average but he is by no means a speedster. While he can keep up with the play, there is little to set him apart from his peers at top speed. However, Brink has excellent acceleration. His first few steps are explosive and he can use those to get away from a defender or to win short races for loose pucks. He also changes speeds on the rush, which can be used to fool a defender.

Brink has good footwork and agility, allowing him to weave in and out of traffic and around defenders. He can make a cut on a dime. Brink has a low centre of gravity. This gives him good balance and allows him to be strong on the puck. He gets to the dirty areas of the ice and is able to fight through tight checking. However, Brink will need to continue to improve his core strength in order to win battles on the boards and in front of the net as he moves to the college level and eventually the pros.

But the guy on the TVS said he was bad skater and the draft experts in here agreed!

Life must be real hard for you with your poor reading comprehension skills and lack of common sense. Yes he's an enabler of this mediocrity. I didn't say he was the cause of the mediocrity. He's perfectly fine with drafting players like O'Brien and Brink and then defending the pick when there are better players available. A player of Brinks size needs to be a fast skater to make it in the NHL, he has so many obstacles to overcome that it's unlikely he amounts to anything. There were better players on the board than him.
You honestly think mock drafts and scouts have never overrated a player before?

- dubc55

Were there really other consensus 1st round picks from the 15-25 range that were still on the board? Thats interesting. Very cool!

it’s fine to have different opinions on prospects because obviously no one really knows outside of 1-2 elite guys how they will turn out

I thought it was pretty funny you think a poster on a hockey board was an enabler of how a team drafts

Enabler: a person or thing that makes something possible

my life is pretty good except when I spend too much time around here, but around the draft is a pretty fun time for a hockey fan, thanks I appreciate your concern for me

Classic, the guy isn’t going to make it the day he’s drafted. Good call. I can stop reading your comments now.

Great, another keyboard warrior that can't read. I said he has so many obstacles to overcome with his small size and not being a speedster. Not that he's going to suck because he's not NHL ready right now. Brink is a big project. All I'm saying is there were better players available than Brink.

Yes there were, and a bunch more in the second round that are better prospects.

What are you mad about? Seriously!

What are you guys mad about?

They took a legitimate defense prospect where he was projected in the first round. They took a consensus first-rounder in the second, a scorer.

Why are you mad? Because they didn’t take someone YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN PLAY?

How can people be mad? You have never seen these kids!

Not mad about anything. I find it hilarious these guys that flip out of ANY criticism of a draft pick after they put a Flyers Jersey on. The draft coverage literally said the kid is a terrible skater right now. It's obviously something that we can be concerned about but these bums take it as ripping any and every pick.

Also don't be a Richard and assume people here don't watch prospects just because you don't.

Man, every single year, some kids get knocked. Do you remember Justin Williams was called a scrawny AHL talent when he was drafted by the Flyers?

Mike Richards had skating concerns.

So on and so forth.

Nobody knows what these kids are gonna be. Nobody. Why get mad?

Here is the reality and I don't care if it ruffles some feathers. It's fine to watch some games, look at highlights and read scouting reports and form an opinion on a player. That's being a fan. Reality is that there isn't anyone who truly knows any of these players. NHL teams have to employ a staff of scouts to look at all these players over a period of time, sometimes years. It's a crap shoot for them. I always find it hysterical when a fan thinks he has real knowledge of any of these players. They don't. That's just the fact. I get a kick out of the one obvious draft expert we have on the thread who thinks that there are better players. He doesn't know. He just thinks he knows. These players differ in rankings among NHL teams. One teams board thinks player A is the better player and another team thinks the opposite. That is among the experts.

I’m being a Richard? GTFO.

What kids did you watch? Seriously. If you watched some, say who and how — was it in person? YouTube highlights? Prospect tournaments on television?

What kids did you see? What kids didn’t you see?

Kapanen unofficially signs 3 years at 3.2-3.4 mill range. Theres the baseline for Konecny. Kapanen had 5 less points than Konecny.
