I am the idiot here, though. I thought that people would be glad that the Flyers snagged a first-round talent after moving up in the second with a pick he acquired yesterday, but holy hell
- AllInForFlyers

Lol team negative squealed like pigs when fletcher gave up our 2nd without understanding he had a plan. He trades back 3 spots to get back in 2nd round and still get their dman in the 1st. Then drafts a consensus 1st round talent that is one of the youngest guys in the draft after trading up more in the 2nd round and people are still saying FLETCHER SUCKS WAHH WAAAHHHHH. Its unreal but thats uneducated Flyers fans for you. Fake outrage

Attard is committed to western Michigan and can play for the phantoms. So will be interested to see where he chooses. Wouldnt mind seeing him with allison but phantoms are so depleted he could be an instant third pairing guy.

Appears he’s an overeager, but that doesn’t bother me. Some kids need more time
- AllInForFlyers

Im just saying 30 goals leading his team in goals is a little odd. Those look like numbers a fwd would have. Dmen almost always have way more assists than goals

he’s an enabler of this perpetual mediocrity?

is he pulling the strings telling them who to draft?

no that can’t be it, but maybe the Flyers scouts and management are reading his social media when it comes down to deciding the next pick?

You’re a riot

- Marc D

Life must be real hard for you with your poor reading comprehension skills and lack of common sense. Yes he's an enabler of this mediocrity. I didn't say he was the cause of the mediocrity. He's perfectly fine with drafting players like O'Brien and Brink and then defending the pick when there are better players available. A player of Brinks size needs to be a fast skater to make it in the NHL, he has so many obstacles to overcome that it's unlikely he amounts to anything. There were better players on the board than him.
You honestly think mock drafts and scouts have never overrated a player before?

it just is insane how many mulligans people give this team all these decades for not winning
- 2Real

Translation= for not ranting beyotching and complaining about every move you don’t agree with is a disaster your a koolaid drinker.
I’ve voiced plenty of concerns when I thought they were warranted but the Flyers scouting dept the last few drafts have been doing a good job for the most part.
Clearly they know more than you or I.
I didn’t get the Rubstov or O’Brien picks.
They Jury is still out on them.
Every team passes on guys that become solid NHL players.

Rubtsov before his injury was on pace for an amazing year and probable nhl call up. O'Brien is still so young to make any kind of true determination.

Americans have been as good as anyone for a decade. Not a stigma anymore
- AllInForFlyers

I'm not worried about a stigma. More worried that he might have a bit of tunnel vision, similar to when this team would never even look at Russians.

Exactly my point being that I might not get the picks but the scouts obviously advocate for these guys for a reason.

Well, we will see. They drafted Finns and Kaprizov was a Russian they picked in Minnesota, so I wouldn’t necessarily worry

Not to mention that the 2nd round and later is when you take players that may have a lot of skill but knocks against them such as size.
- MJL

I agree. Misery loves company. I don’t know why I keep coming here other than for the misery. Respected people are loving the Flyers draft and yet, hockeybuzz is miserable.

As for the Subban trade, he’s getting paid $9 mill. It could have been done if the Flyers didn’t pick up Niskanen and Braun. But it would have cost young players and picks and people would have lost their mind if they did that. Like they are losing their minds for not doing it right now. Sigh.

He got a second round pick for three spots! THREE SPOTS. And not a top 10 pick. Arizona traded a second round pick to move up three picks, to a spot not in the Top 10. The Flyers would have been roasted if the roles were reversed. And the Flyers still got their guy.

Btw, to everyone blaming Fletcher, these are still the same scouts as Hextall was relying on the last few years.

Last Word Hockey on Brink’s skating

Skating

Brink’s skating is good but there is still room for improvement in a number of key areas. His speed is slightly above average but he is by no means a speedster. While he can keep up with the play, there is little to set him apart from his peers at top speed. However, Brink has excellent acceleration. His first few steps are explosive and he can use those to get away from a defender or to win short races for loose pucks. He also changes speeds on the rush, which can be used to fool a defender.

Brink has good footwork and agility, allowing him to weave in and out of traffic and around defenders. He can make a cut on a dime. Brink has a low centre of gravity. This gives him good balance and allows him to be strong on the puck. He gets to the dirty areas of the ice and is able to fight through tight checking. However, Brink will need to continue to improve his core strength in order to win battles on the boards and in front of the net as he moves to the college level and eventually the pros.

Classic, the guy isn’t going to make it the day he’s drafted. Good call. I can stop reading your comments now.
