Pens need everything from a cupboard perspective. Problem is, you put so much into the win now window for so long that it almost makes no sense to not do so now. Would’ve rather traded it to be honest. - stayinthefnnet
Rutherford still talking crazy, like the window is open?
If they were ruthless and traded Malkin, they could maybe take another run with Crosby in two years

His stats would make a lot more sense if he was a forward. |

That's basically what happened to the Blackhawks too. I'm still amazed with the guys they had they still ended up with such a high pick tho. - hereticpride
Oh yeah. No matter who you are, the music has to stop eventually.
I see what you’re saying about Chicago though. Kane is still Kane. Toews had a decent renaissance year. They hit a grand slam on debrincat for a young forward to come in and bang out 35 goals a year.
Their back end just absolutely killed them. They found their savior in maatta at least haha |

What you said is that there were a host of players still left better than Brink. Next we can get into discussing the comment you made of "he has so many obstacles to overcome that it's unlikely he amounts to anything" and how that relates to players selected in the 2nd round. - MJL
Here's the post just in case you forgot.
Sometimes all that information also leads to scouts etc. overvaluing/underestimating certain players. You're right, it is a crapshoot for many reasons. Philly moved up in the draft to select a project player with with a lot of question marks. There were more safe picks with as much or more potential on the board that are further along in development than Brink. I have a reason to be skeptical of the pick. Thanks for the shout out.
Also, Brink has more holes in his game than the others that I listed that were still available in the second. |

So you're saying there is mediocrity and you support it? Why didn't you just say that the first time? - dubc55
We support our team through their ups and downs
I think they are way above mediocre currently although several recent seasons that would be accurate
But your point was that fans can help change what the team does on draft day by not supporting them when they make a draft pick that goes against someone’s perceived ranking of a prospect which I don’t buy.

Honestly, you have to believe the window is still open, or else what are you doing?
The issue is, the window could be open for another two years or so if they hit on the secondary moves. Crosby malkin letang a d kessel can still get it done, but they aren’t good enough anymore that they can just cheat code override everything else.
With so many top heavy contracts, you have the big pieces but your margin for error on the supplemental parts is razor thin. JR has not shown the ability to nail those moves lately and it’s killing them. |

This sounds a lot like Holmgren's Flyers. Core is there but you're filling in the cracks with too many subpar pieces. |

Would you rather have
Niskanan at 7M for the 2019/20 season and 7.5 for 20/21 (Adding in the MacDonald buyout penalty) of Subban at 9M till the 21/22 season? |

"There were better players on the board than him."
You may have an opinion that there were more safe players or better players on the board but that is not a fact. Fact is that you're not qualified to make that judgement in comparison to the Flyers scouting staff. None of us are. |

It gets tougher if they trade Letang although the argument to get something good back while you can for him is valid too
He’s had some significant health issues and still is a difference maker |

I'm really interested in what we're gonna do with the backup situation. Can't spend a lot of money but probably want a seasoned vet to help mentor Hart... |

Definitely going to hurt getting the RFA's all signed. Especially if Provorov really wants 8.
