The organization will keep getting away with this mediocrity as long as the fans keep supporting it. Yes, it's a fun time being a hockey fan during draft week and free agency. And you're welcome 😉 - dubc55
that is an interesting response regarding the fans continuing to support their team regardless of mediocrity
being from Philly and a sports fan, you see a dichotomy. unwavering support for a team and players when they are fighting to win, making an honest effort, etc
but when the players are perceived as slacking or the management is making bad decisions, the Philly fan is pretty quick to tear them to shreds
I think we still support them by going to games and watching our teams. Maybe more then we should during times of mediocrity, but I think that’s what makes us good fans

Bobby "the brain" Brink and Rowdy Roddy Ross.
I think I see the Flyers draft strategy. The Flyers assistant GM Rick Flahr is a wresting fan. |

I am pretty happy that Fletcher was aggressive enough to acquire and use draft capital as he saw fit.
That doesn’t mean I have any idea what these kids will or won’t do.
But he extracted serious value in moving down three spots, and used that value to take a shot on a first-round projection who slid.
That’s all you can ask, to me — he took a shot on skill, put more defense prospects in the system because you never have enough.
Now we wait |

If the flyers would’ve sacrificed a second to move three spots not even in the top ten, people would have screamed. By default, that has to make it a pretty savvy move the other way no?

Braun trade could’ve been better, IMO, because SJ was capped out.
Fine with Niskanen.
Hayes was costly. I think it was worth the risk. Others disagree.
Think they did what you hope for on draft weekend.
I think Vigneault is one of the top 10 coaches currently active.
Ambivalent about Therrien and Yeo, but maybe they can help address inconsistencies faster than less experienced coaches.
Glad Gordon went back to LHV.
All in all, I like where they are. No clue where it all goes, but they are better than they were two months ago

They did the right thing there. They made an educated guess that York would still be there at #14. The 'Yotes were obviously worried the Flyers would take Soderstrom.
Parlaying #45 into Bobby Brink just made that trade even better. |

I'm sure you do have a reason to be skeptical of the pick. Things I read that you have posted give me a reason to be skeptical of your opinion. Such as how teams look at a draft and why they draft certain players when. The safe pick is not always the best pick. A team should have a blend of safe picks and picks looking to hit a home run. You're entitled to your opinion but lets not pretend that you have more information then they do or know players better than they do. You don't. - MJL
You do that every day on this site lol. No self awareness.
"I said the players were more safe with as much or more potential than brink" Not just that they were safe picks.

Just for the hell of it, I went a-googling for Roddy Ross and I came across this from the HF Boards.
"This kid is one of the best WHL goaltenders I've seen in a long time. I've watched him live quite a few times now. One of the most composed and technically talented goaltenders I've seen at this level. Single-handedly rejuvenated the Thunderbirds and has been electric since being called up to the team. I had the pleasure of watching him stone the Silvertips the other night with a 45 save gem. This kid is something special and has NHL size. Goaltenders are so hard to project, especially in the WHL. But he's the best I've seen in a long time.
Could see him being a late round flyer this year if scouts are really paying attention. But his arrival and carrying of the team is one of the more impressive things in my near 20 years of following the Thunderbirds. Not sure of his future but I haven't been this impressed with a WHL goaltender in my memory."

What you said is that there were a host of players still left better than Brink. Next we can get into discussing the comment you made of "he has so many obstacles to overcome that it's unlikely he amounts to anything" and how that relates to players selected in the 2nd round.

Pens need everything from a cupboard perspective. Problem is, you put so much into the win now window for so long that it almost makes no sense to not do so now. Would’ve rather traded it to be honest. |

That's basically what happened to the Blackhawks too. I'm still amazed with the guys they had they still ended up with such a high pick tho.
Pens could be scary bad in a few years unless they do the unthinkable and trade one of Malkin or Crosby. |
