No. The offer sheet doesn’t just come from the other team. The player has to agree and sign it. It is then binding in the original team chooses not to match.

Wedgie (frank)ed us with his magic elixir !! Mutual termination didn't work. In hindsight I guess it was always as simple as Leafs told Marleau they wanted him off the books and he said he'll only waive the NMC if it lead to a buyout so he could go home.

I'm not saying it wasnt costly just that for the cost of cap space it's probably on par.

Its top 10 protected next year and I have a hard time seeing the leafs bottom out in the next two years.

Look at all the deals. Miller went for nothing too. All the deals are cap related and the other teams know it.

You also have no idea what the trades would be for kap or Johnsson so you're assuming theyd get those returns. I can point to the fact two other deals are done today for cap space and both those teams got nothing.

Dubas also didnt give up any prospects.

There's many ways to spin it...but the bottom line is we lost no one off the core from this deal..

Imagine us acquiring a 2020 first from a team that finishes lower than us......

But if it allows us to sign Marner and keep all the kids together, that's more valuable than what will likely be a low first rounder.
