The Pens missing the playoffs would probably get JR fired, which would be a good thing, but then who takes over?

What I’ve heard about Guerin’s philosophy isn’t encouraging.

JT Miller likely going to the Canucks in a trade.

2 stanley cups trump all of those picks.
- j.boyd919

I agree 100% for 2015 & 2016. 2015 led to Perron which led to Hagelin & 2016 was for Kessel. Kessel & Hagelin's contributions were obviously vital for Cups in 16 & 17.

The picks in 2017 & 2018 were just massive wastes. A good part of that is from a failed Brassard deal, but all in all, this shows why more teams should send offer sheets, especially if you expect to pick 20+ for several years. Like would I trade these 4 guys we could've traded for Mitch Marner...? Hell yes.

The host team is always expected to make noise at the draft which is why there was a ton of speculation on Vancouver trading their pick. Is this really news to you?

Yeah you’re right the host city is the only one who makes deals on draft night, how dumb of me

Damn. Good move by the Flyers. They take their pick they acquired from Arizona last night, move up, and take Bobby Brink, a guy the Penguins probably considered.

Just spitballing, but if Marleau gets bought out and is going to take a cheap contract for a contender do the Pens take a shot if it's around $2M? I know if they by him out it's probably like 95% he goes back to SJ, but I'd welcome his speed.

I said noise, not trades. I heard that Burrows is going in the ring of honor too. I haven’t seen it sourced but Taylor Pyatt told me. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that you Americans who don’t venture to TSN and Sportsnet don’t get it. Do you guys not follow Friedman or McKenzie either? There is ALWAYS tons of chatter around the host team making the biggest splashes. What do you do on Canada Day? Do you not follow James Duthie and the TSN panel like the rest of us?

The rumor this year was Vancouver was waiting to pull the trigger on Barrie but liked the player they got at 10 instead. In New Jersey Lou dealt the 9th overall pick for Schneider making a splash. Back in 2017 Chicago sent Darling packing despite having solid numbers. They also sent out Tuevo and Bickell. In 2016 Buffalo did the Moulson trade

As I’m typing this Vancouver snaps up JT Miller. There’s your hometown splash. As expected it wasn’t cheap: 1st, 3rd, and a decent prospect

If he's $2M? Speed, skill and depth?

Retiring the Sedin’s numbers, adding Burrows to the ring of honor, rumors of acquiring Barrie/Subban, keeping everyone in suspense and using your pick instead, then acquiring JT Miller whose the exact type of player you told your fan base you were after. Yeah, I’d call that a splash. Would’ve been nice to have seen it on day 1 but better late than never

I mean you have like $5m in cap to sign Blueger, ZAR, and Pettersson.

Which would fill out our roster. What’s interesting though is didn’t Rusty Shackleford say they would be looking more at the cheaper free agents later in the summer? If that’s the case then he’s likely still looking to move out player(s)/salary

I mean if you trade Rust for Puljujarvi

Sign Marleau cheap and have room for the RFAs it makes some sense.

Pulj I’m all for but there are rumors Carolina would re-unite him with Aho

Marleau didn’t look hungry in the playoffs to me. Not only that, Marleau wants to go southwest and will likely take a discount to do it. It’s almost like he’s destined to sign cheap with the Sharks. He shouldn’t even be on our radar imo

ZAR doesn’t need PP time, Sullivan trusts him on the P.K. (where he’s been fine), he scores 0.4 points per game, and averages like 3 hits per game. He’s also a 10.5% shooter

The biggest thing that bothers me about ZAR isn’t his lack of speed, it’s his anticipation AND the fact that like 99% of his shots are straight at the goalies pads. I’d like to see him try to pick the corners a little more often

Who’s on your wishlist? I would’ve liked to have gotten Miller to play with Malkin tbh. I think we could’ve beaten that price (Vancouver picks higher than us so we would’ve had to)

For PIT I don't know if there is anything out there that makes sense with the current cap situation.

Marleau is fast? Maybe like 5 years ago. All that money weighs him down now.

He's lost a step, but yes, he's definitely a faster player. Faster than a lot players on the Pens roster.
