What's the point of signing Myers this year if you don't plan on making the playoffs?

I think one of the reasons why Carol has such a high thread count is that we spend so much time trying to decipher these moves.

Podkolzen Petey Brock
Pearson Bo Miller
Roussel Gaudette JV
Leivo Beagle Sutter

Edler Barrie
Hughes Myers
OJ Woo
Tryamken

Demko

That could be your starting line up next year if Podkolzen gets out of his contract one year early

Doesn't Pearson only have one year left on his deal?

You aren't understanding.

Performance Bonuses may not be earned during the regular season is why they allow for the extra percentage. At the end of the season though if the performance bonuses are earned it will then count against the cap for the season. If at that point the team goes over the cap thanks to performance bonuses it is taken off of your cap for next season.

I think i understand. The post i shared just contradicts what you are saying and cites where it’s info is coming. So i just disagree. There’s a difference.

From Elliotte Freidman;

In no way are we knocking Miller. He is a strong transitional player, can be used in any forward position, in any situation, and is a playmaker first that should complement some of the snipers high up the lineup. He’s also signed through another four seasons so he brings cost certainty. But we do have to wonder if he is the kind of player who, at this point in Vancouver’s re-armament process, is worth giving up a first-round pick to acquire.

What exactly do you not understand? What part do you think i'm wrong on?

Performance Bonuses only apply once they have been earned. You are allowed to exceed the cap during the regular season by a percentage for cap hits that haven't been earned yet. At the end of the season whatever performance bonuses have been hit, apply to your cap for the year. Any money that goes over the cap thanks to the performance bonuses will then be applied to next season's cap.

More from Freidman;

The Canucks don’t have to make the playoffs this season because the pick is lottery protected, but if they whiff in 2021 Tampa Bay is going to walk out of this as a massive winner. The Lightning had to shed some salary this summer and it’s not often a team in that position is able to recoup a first-round pick out of it. The Canucks and Benning are assuming all of the risk in this swap.

What could go wrong? It's not like they have ever whiffed on a big signing or acquisition in the past

Mark my words... Hoglander will be in the lineup next year. Also, I hate Podkolzin as a Petey linemate. Zero compatibility IMO. Once he arrives I really hope to see Miller-Bo-Pod together. & I hope we eventually find Petey someone to play off of/create with (the reason I’m now open to signing Panarin)

Yes anything that goes above the 6 million dollar cushion incurs a penalty. I dont think it very likely that it happens, certainly not the the tune you suggested. Qh and ep will surely earn bonuses. Who else? Why would it exceed 6 mil? It’s a non-issue and youve calculated into your forecast. Because of this i said they dont count. Because they dont really, cause teams dont really cross that threshold often.

No not at all, but I don’t think the roster you presented is an alternative considering the cost to achieve it.

I also don’t understand everyone plugging in Miller with EP and Brock. Give Bo his playmaking winger, he needs it.

I don't care about the Leafs, I care about the Canucks trading away 1st round picks in the 2nd year of a re-build.
I'm just pointing out that move is being questioned outside of this thread.

The risks for the leafs are different. They could still recoup 4 first round picks if someone OS Marner. But moving Marleau gave them the space to get Kappy and Andy locked down.

It's also much less likely the leafs miss the playoffs than the Canucks

We were into the last month of the season in a playoff drive but getting rid of Pouliot Hutton Granlund Goldobin and replacing them with NHL players won't make a difference .

Aquaman and Gillis communicate regularly. Maybe he’s still in ownerships ear.

Yeah, that’s it. Gillis has been the puppet master all along. Like the cigarette smoking man.

Don't kid yourself, they were never really in playoff contention.
