I've heard that the bottom half of the draft is more important than the top half.

I'll wait for FA to tweet that.

2 picks in the top 100 after the season we just had to watch feels wrong.

stings a little more when Benning tells everyone he doesn't want to deal picks this year when we are hosting...

JB traded a 1st because:

A) He knows he is gonna sign an impact player like Panarin
B) He really thinks team is a contender for playoffs now
C) He don't give a *!@!, cause he is a lame duck GM
D) Both B and C

D for sure

he's too busy yelling at a taxi driver outside of Rogers Arena about how Uber is better.

Giving up firsts hurts. It’s pretty much all we have to look forward to when your team is dog sh!t 🤮
- CanuckDon

I think it has to do with most people still thinking this is a bottom 10 team. Canuks will probably build a playoff team this year when all is said and done . That protection cluse makes me think Benning thinks it will be a playoff team also.

Somewhere throughout the year Canucks have to try to recoup that first round pick. Maybe a Markstrom trade at TDL

My biggest issue is Miller does not make us a playoff team he really doesn't make us better. I hope I am wrong but its only going to get crazier the way JB is going.
- thundachunk

You can definitely argue that he's not good enough to make this a playoff team, but he definitely makes this team better. The Canucks don't have many forwards with 50 point potential on their roster. That's why Bo always gets stuck playing with 3rd liners.

Come on man. Miller is instantly our 2nd best winger. How does he not make us better?

I guess we can cross off an offer sheet scenario from the playbook for next season....

Yeah, people really need to stop believing that crap

Jim might seem like a lost puppy, but he's blatantly lied multiple times to the fans.

interesting side note

Francis Perron will require waivers to get to Utica. Could the Canucks be banking on this kid making the team out of camp?

It’s a polarizing trade no doubt. Benning should have been banned from trading firsts. But I do like Miller
- CanuckDon

Best case scenario - Canucks miss the playoffs this year (expected) and keep the pick
Then in 2021 - make the playoffs and Tampa end up with a pick between 16-31 - we still have Miller for 2 more years as a 28/29 year old (somewhat prime years) playing with Bo, Pearson, Boeser, EP during their prime years. Theres some good upside in that scenario.
BUT
Worse case - we make the playoffs next year and TBL gets our lottery pick in 2020 OR we miss the POs the next 2 years and TB get our lottery pick in 2021 - that sound right?

Would it surprise you if Benning actually believed this, based on all of his moves today? lol

While this is true it is also the reason we should not be getting rid of 1st round pics. Speeding up a rebuild is just going to create more problems for the next guy coming in. This was a knee jerk reaction.

One thing I'll say is that when you get past the 4th round, it;'s been shown in multiple studies that rounds 5-7 are a complete crapshoot so trading down is a good option.

But not when the trade down is for waiver eligible Francis Perron

I will concede he does make us better not at the cost though. Even with him we are still a lotto pick.

it really does make you wonder if the Canucks are actively and aggressively shopping some forwards. Sven/Sutter/Motte/Hutton, they all have to be floated around by Benning.
