Condition on 2020 first is playoffs. If VAN doesn’t get in, it moves to 2021
- Supirium99

The condition should have been if he doesn't lead the Canucks in scoring it becomes a 4th.

Teams are literally paying 1st rounders to dump players and Benning drops one a tier two player lol.

UN-FUKING BELIEVABLE!
- VanHockeyGuy

They should NEVER be trading first round picks. Despite the conditions being favourable for the Canucks in a strong 2020 draft, and the Canucks not slated to become a playoff team next year, its still an absolute awful trade and Tampa just fleeced us.

Ridiculous trade for a player who was being shopped as a cap dump.

Ya, I'm pretty steady on JB, but giving up a first is (frank)ing stupid. Ugh

With Miller, team does have a much better shot at the playoffs

imagine paying premium on players that are needing to be dealt by teams in cap troubles. Shero did it right, Benning did it ALL WRONG

May be his worst trade ever.

The only reason you do this trade is to leave a big Fuk You on the way out the door.

You know it's a player with lots of term left. They could trade him for a higher pick at anytime.

yeah, I was expecting to have a minor complaint about Jim giving top a 3rd + another 3rd next year or something, hey made it sound like the 3rd was the main piece going the other way and then Daly drops that bomb on us.

The crowd was shook

Is the deal done? What are the exactly terms? Any other player involved?

absolutely. Not taking anything away from Miller, very good player, and very good defensively, but that aside, Jim Bennings approach to utilizing cap space and taking advantage of teams in cap trouble is still needing major work. Its hard to commend him for the conditions when he still severely overpaid.

Ya this is not defensible, just a bad move. Miller is 26, hopefully much better than what he appears, cause this looks like a bad, bad trade.

Imagine if the Canucks get Ottawa'd in 2021 and it ends up being a top 5 pick

With the Canucks injury lock/travel schedule, it's not out of the realm of possibility if a couple of their top players miss a good chunk of games.

The Lightning have traded forward J.T. Miller to Vancouver for a conditional first-round pick in 2020, a third-round selection in 2019 and goaltender Marek Mazanec. Should the Canucks not make the playoffs in 2019-20, the first-round selection will move to the 2021 draft.

2019 3rd

+

2020 or 2021 1st

it's 2020 first rounder they gave up if the Canucks make the playoffs, if they miss the playoffs then it's the 2021 1st round pick they give up no matter what
