Per sources, the Predators are willing to retain upwards of $3M of Subban’s contract, should the right deal fall into place.

I know Lavoie has some motivation consistency issues but he is very talented and has great size at 6'4". I hope the Hawks can snag him early tomorrow.
- EbonyRaptor

If I am taking a risk on a kid with motivation issues, it would be Kaliyev. Lavoie really doesn't have the production you want out of the QJMHL. Though, Lavioe had a strong POs. That makes me a bit more leery. Was it a coming of age? Or an aberration?

Kaliyev scored 40 goals as a 16 yr old on a championship team. Followed it up with 51.
Scored well 5 v 5.

Both are a risk. I would prefer more of a self-starter like Grewe who already has that competitive gene.

With the drafting of Dach, it would seem Anisimov needs to be moved out of the 3C spot but the Hawks are kind of in a bind because if they trade AA and Dach isn't ready to play in the NHL - then they don't have a 3C and going out and acquiring one would then clog up the 3C spot so Dach wouldn't be able to play there. I suppose they could keep AA for this season and if Dach makes the team AA can play wing and be traded at a later time.
- EbonyRaptor

No rush to move AA unless its a deal that makes sense. Hell, AA and Kampf isn't a bad start to a shutdown line. Sure, someone with a bit more speed than AA would be great but AA is smart on the ice and can handle it, imo.

Would some team ahead of Chicago in round two, switch picks if we send AA their way?
- jhawk59

Nah. most teams ahead are looking to add to their talent pools with youth. AA could be move in a separate deal if future picks are used to move up.

I'm was really surprised when the Hawks took Dach. I thought for sure they were going to take Turcotte and the Kings would get whoever was left between Byram and Dach. In the end I'm happy with Turcotte and his speed and skill. I spent some time looking at highlight videos of Dach because I was convinced he would be on the Kings (big body centers is kind of our thing). I think the Hawks are going to be really happy with this kid a few years down the road. Very smart and if he adds a little nasty to his play he could be great.

Grewe is exactly the type you can plug up and down your top 9 right side....if I can compare him to someone it would be komarov but with more skill, he’s always around the dirty areas and can surprise you with some nice handles...another guy u can compare him to is Andrew Shaw....but still I think with potentially more offensive skill.

Love to see him in a hawks sweater

Seconded. As TC alluded, I think it is quite premature to expect that Dach starts the year with the Hawks. Bonus if he does, but AA is still a very useful piece on this team.

By the same token, you are going to like Turcotte. He plays the whole ice. Hard. With a load of skill. Kid has been compared, style wise, to Toews, Bergeron and Kopitar.

I fully expect Dach to be back in juniors next season. He is already vg defensively so he has a chance to make the team but there is no harm in letting go back to Saskatoon and dominate at that level.

Whoever likely falls to us let 'em wear 43 like Saader and have the chip on his shoulder.

Good God, I want to know what they think they would get in return. 3 mil for 3 years is insane, especially with their window being now.

Scott Wheeler of The Athletic rated our Dach pick as an OT Loss.

OT loss = Teams I believe could have done better but might, in time, be happy with their pick(s) regardless.

He thinks we should have drafted Turcotte or Byram.

He seems full of himself.

Dach isn’t ready to play in Chicago - certainly not as a center.

Or maybe as happy as you were to get PK Subban only to have to now retain 3mil to try to trade him?

Wait...I know. You were just as happy to trade for Turris and give him 6mil per, right? THAT'S how happy if I had to guess.

Stan will give him every opportunity to make the team out of camp. Let's wait until then before saying he's not ready to play in the NHL.

The 3 center jerseys, Dach Toews Strome

I really doubt Anisimov sticks around.. unless they really think Dach needs another year or 2.

I’m saying it now.

Let him learn how to be a hockey player, playing against men in the AHL (yes, I know, not until 2020/21) even if it takes two years to get here.

Look at the NHL hangers-on who came directly to the big club at 18 or 19 who haven’t developed the way they should have. The NHL is not a development league - and it’s not a league for teenagers playing against mature men.

Even if Dach were to turn out to be the third best center on the team in September - even if he were to leaked”the team - it doesn’t mean he hand the Hawks) wouldn’t be better / best served by more development time in an environment where development IS the most important thing.

Yeah, I’m saying it now.
