Dach is a solid pick, very happy the Hawks went this route. I believe he’ll need a year or two before he is truly NHL-ready, but perhaps that time line gets accelerated?

I really haven’t had the opportunity to pour over the prospect depth charts beyond the first round, so I’m looking forward to reading what a lot of you folks think in the subsequent rounds as to who the Hawks should have on their radar.

Onward and upwards.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Hawks move up to grab one of these guys. Maybe Kaliyev or Lavoie.

I really like Lavoie and am surprised that he is still available for the next round.

From April 9th when the Hawks won the draft lottery and moved from 12th to 3rd until around 7:30 tonight, I voiced my preference in who I wanted the Hawks to take with the 3rd pick. Early on I wanted Turcotte but then changed my preference to Byram which is who I was hoping Stan would draft when he stepped up to the microphone tonight.

Then he announced Kirby Dach,

I knew it was going to be a new day once the draft selection was made. All the pre-draft thoughts would have to be put in the past – no matter who Stan selected. I knew I was going to have to put all my pre-draft opinions behind me and embrace the player no matter who it was because he would now be a Hawk and a player I want to succeed. The only thing I didn’t know about all that was how long it would take me to get over Stan picking the “wrong guy” (according to me) and warming up to the guy he did select.

Well, it’s been only a few hours since Kirby Dach became the newest Blackhawk and I can tell you I’ve warmed up to the pick. There’s a lot to like about Dach and I have high hopes that he will be a great player for the Hawks in the not too distant future.

Welcome aboard #77.

Anisimov wasn’t a third overall selection like Toews and Strome.

LOL DraftSite.co is so overload with traffic, I could get the lastv two picks in for 15 minutes, itv was kicking me out.

Yeah, too bad Tracey was off the board but there are lots of intriguing players IF they still have the pick.

(This Subban to Leafs trade means lots of bodies and changes so I wouldn't be surpirsed if the hawks used the second rounder in a trade)

I got wind on Dach after they had him in privately to Chicago and Turcotte said he was going top 3 or 4 so that signaled that he saw the writing on the wall, but then in Vancouver, but obviously the hawks had L_B_R stats and watched the Cup finals and saw that take overs and big men with poise and vision are rare beside Paul Coffey beiong there for your team...and I dont think they try and rush Dach...but a lot of in the know people are saying he has the correct make-up to succeed early...YOU simply dont want to rush things where he loss confidence...let's wait until traioning camp to gauge his timetable

I hope the Edmionton defenseman is there for the hawks...Matthew Robertson

I’m all for trading up if they’ve got their eye on a dropper from the first. I just hope they don’t lose too much value going the other way.

Yeah I had him going to the habs, but there were season long bouts of lacks of intensity, and it may be just growing his game a bit...he would be our Eric Daze who can fight if he dropped to the hawks

It will be all over the news outlets tomorrow

Supposedly the preds want to dump PK and will retain MILLIONs in each year to do so IF they get all the Leafs soon to be cast offs

Once the 19/20 salary cap amount is release I’m guessing we’ll see some deals.

with the hawks going with a guy projected lower and wings doing the same...

very curious neither traded down....maybe those are tough trades to assess and pulloff...plus the risk of not getting "your guy"

could a trade have been there with the kings, sabres or oil?

Babcock isn't a big Subban fan, though, is he?

Kaliyev looked crushed that he wasn't picked in the 1st round. Kid is 18. The knock is his work ethic. He has scored a load of goals for being lazy. If he takes it as motivation, someone is going to get themselves one pissed off motivated 2nd round pick.

Dach wasn't really projected lower, tho. He has been in the 3-5 mix most of the year. He helped himself with a strong 2nd half.

I’m really really hoping Stan does find a way to add a 2nd 2nd rounder and grabs grewe and vlasic.....if Stan stays put then I’m so hoping grewe is still there and he picks him. Grewe is one of those guys that you win with....reminds me of a better version of leo komarov....without the bad temper and more skilled

There are about 7 guys in the 2nd round that would be good picks. Top 3 for me are Kaliyev, Brink and Vlasic. Robertson is another. Couple of Swedes in Grewe and Hoglander.

6’6 Alex Vlasic as the big body defender to complement the offensive Dman Boquist??
- EnzoD

Would some team ahead of Chicago in round two, switch picks if we send AA their way?

I know Lavoie has some motivation consistency issues but he is very talented and has great size at 6'4". I hope the Hawks can snag him early tomorrow.

With the drafting of Dach, it would seem Anisimov needs to be moved out of the 3C spot but the Hawks are kind of in a bind because if they trade AA and Dach isn't ready to play in the NHL - then they don't have a 3C and going out and acquiring one would then clog up the 3C spot so Dach wouldn't be able to play there. I suppose they could keep AA for this season and if Dach makes the team AA can play wing and be traded at a later time.
