I believe that he is just saying that if Toronto sucks there will be a mutiny and not referring to Toronto losing a high pick.
- eagle50

yeah but the chances of that happening are really slim.

- BetweenTheDots

Hawks drafting size with skill this year. It looks like they are saturating their weekness by drafting a bunch of dmen. I like it since Bowman can seem to find quality forwards with trades. The more i read and watched Dach the more im impressed. We'll see but if he can impose his will in the NHL, he'll be fun to watch.

They should have asked for a warm body too at least, somebody like Jeremy Bracco.

I get what you’re saying but the countries behind the iron curtain were countries before the iron curtain. North America was not before Europe invaded. There was no defined “country” here. We shared a continent, not any thing else.

Ya John, I was kidding, not going to debate global geography on draft day.

You are doing it just to distract us fans, it won't work, we are on to you

Dach’s back checking has been described as tenacious & elite. One of his comps was Hossa. If he comes anywhere near the future HOFer, it’s a home run for Stan.
- scottak

A collection of excellent defensive forwards with offensive skills to boot are starting to look better the past two summers with Dach, Entwistle, Kurashev, and Hagel. This on top of older prospects like Sikura or prospects who are more bottom 6 like Highmore, Soderlund, Hakkarainen, and R Johnson.

Will all of them hit? Likely not, but that's why building up the pipeline, having a strong farm system, and employing competent player development coaches are critical. I like how the Blackhawks are trending lately in this regard.

Plenty of D I the pipeline, 1 or 2 should hit, this was the correct pick.
- scottak

Mentioned this yesterday, but whether the Hawks drafted Byram or not (apparently not, of course), I have faith that the existing D pipeline is strong enough to net enough to build up a future defense corps that can play reliably across all zones:

Boqvist, Jokiharju, Beaudin, Mitchell, Krys, and Carlsson plus other hopefuls with less talent but bring physicality and more defensive mindedness like Gilbert, Hillman, Tuulola, and Galvas.

Of course, not all will make it and there will be future trades and draft picks, yet this is really not a bad collection to build from.

Absolutely love the Vlasic pick today as he's a true defensive defenseman. He's case in point in continuing to add to the D prospect collection. A pick like Vlasic helps to not get too down that the Hawks selected Dach over Byram.

Didn't Dach's head coach state he was the best player they've ever had? And he was a pleasure to work with, a true team player?

I think we should run with that storyline vs. analysts, fans, bloggers opinions. It's acknowledging the weight of opinion of a person (the head coach) who has spent many months with the player, including hundreds of hours off the ice. To me, his opinion should be integrated into our overall assessments.

Careful, you don't want to sound to much like VopatsRash's brother.

From HB home page rumor ticker:

Hearing Chicago and Vegas Continuing to Talk
The Knights are now more hopeful they can extend Karlsson, but there are some other players the Hawks really like...

Gostisbehere and Tyson Barrie...
Hearing similar teams looking at each player...Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, Chicago, Toronto....I don't see it happening at the Draft...

The Central is a nasty division so a team needs depth and size to go with skill. I thinl Stan realizes that. Gonna be tough sledding knocking heads with the Avs, Stars and Blues particularly.

Colin Miller ? Cody Eakin? Read where the the Russian, Nikita Gusev Vegas signed in the spring, now a RFA, may be on the block, too.

Ghost too inconsistent? Don't think Colorado will trade Barrie within the divsion.

Agree...

...but does Stan realize the blueline is hot garbage? I'm not sure he does...

Oh. Vlasic isn't a true defensive D-man. There is offense to his game. Not so much points at this point but more outlet passes and creating space with movement.

Acquire Clarkson's 1-year LTIR contract ($5.25M) from Vegas with Nikita Gusev as the sweetener. Sign Gusev to a 2-year $5M AAV deal. Gusev would be a very nice LW to play oppsite Kane.
