Someone let me know who’s taken at pick #104. It’s the pick nobody wanted! |

I love what StanBo has done since the Strome trade. John Quenneville is another former first rounder that just had over 1 PPG in the AHL last year. He can possibly provide some depth scoring.
Dach is a huge addition, figuratively and literally. Now 2nd rounder Alex Vlasic as the excellent skating giant Defense-first 6'6" 200+lb that shoots left.
Not sure what NJ sees in Hayden besides being able to throw a heavy hay-maker.... - EnzoD
Hayden offers some protection to Hughes if other teams get tough with him.

Quennville is a RFA and still has to be qualified/extended. |

Peter Holland II, Queeneville does nothing for me whatsoever. Will not break my heart if he does not even get a contract from the Hawks. |

Just remember, we don't have unlimited cap space. So to trade for someone now and use some space....might preclude us from being players come free agency. So we have to pick the perfect trade and/or free agency with our cap space. So don't fret if they don't do anything right now. Likely means they will do something in free agency. |

That would be true under normal conditions but the Hawks are in a unique position because they need to squirrel away enough cap space to help with re-signing Cat and Strome next summer. Therefore, the cap space they deem is necessary to squirrel away could be used for a 1-year contract that will come off the books after 2019/20. A 1-year contract almost certainly isn't going to useful in signing a free agent because any free agent is going to want a longer term contract than 1 year. So taking on a 1-year contract like Clarkson from Vegas or Horton from Toronto or Callahan from T.B. would be a good use of that part of the 2019/20 cap space that really can't be used in any other way.

Salary cap news is crushing a lot of movement. WTF NHL....if everyone knew the cap I guarantee there would be a lot more movement during the draft. |

Still would like the Hawks to acquire acquire a top 4 D either via trade or free agency. |

I didn't mention in the blog, but the fact Dach is a right-handed centre is a nice quality to have added to the system. - Tyler Cameron

Alex Vlasic
Chicago-area defensive prospect with fluid feet and lots of size already. Still raw, but quickly advancing as an all-around force on the backline. This a tall USA defender with an excellent overall skill package. Has a high panic threshold and stays cool under pressure, never scrambling and throwing pucks away. A sharp outlet passer in transition and when in the attack zone, he reads the attack well and uses his strong wrists to deliver precise passes. Takes away centre ice and closes his gaps well in the back pedal. Closes off passing lanes and reacts to what is happening in the moment. Will break out in transition and make good decisioned outlets, and occasional home-run pass. But isn't looked at as a future NHL mailman as an attacker. Is good offensively from the blue line and makes plays back there. Committed to Boston College. |
