I think for Canada it also comes back to building materials. Cabin usually made from logs(wood) and cottage usually made from other things, Brick, Stone, etc... which is way more common in the East.

For me, living in Western Canada, Brick/Stone is expensive to build with, so wood means cabin.

- breadbag

Living in Ontario where both terms are used, Cottage seems to mean a waterfront property and a cabin is a place usually in the woods.

I think your Caufield votes are a little low, you might want to double check your numbers.

No, you forget most of us live in Chicago, we voted early and often...

Interesting... I have an overall Stan Bowman blog slated to come out this summer. I may work that into there or might dedicate it's own blog.
- Tyler Cameron

Yeah I think it could definitely fit into an overall Stan blog, I'm looking forward to it.

I think those were two gutsy moves by management. They clearly wanted to improve their contract situation and restock the cupboards which I think they accomplished with the trades. This upcoming year the roster looks like Saad, Murphy, another $6m worth of players vs. Hammer and Panarin if they don't make those moves, plus their prospect pipeline is probably not as good. Considered holistically, I think it was probably good for the future of the team, but the last two years are definitely better at least during the regular season with Hammer/Panarin.

If he would sign for 10.5.....I think that deal would be done about now. Look for 11+
- hawk35

Until the final cap, Toronto can't sign him anyway, because if they sign him to $11 mil. they are in violation of the tagging rules, even if they do sign him, and the cap is $81.5, they are at $85 mil. with 18 contracts. They would be able to got to $91.5 during the off season byt would have to shed $10 mil. by opening day.

For a 2 year deal that's fair.

All we can do is wait until tomorrow and celebrate whomever they select because it's going to be a damn good player.

TYLER, with all due respect, this is an inaccurate statement. We hope the pick turns into a ‘damn good player’, but there remains the possibility that the player taken 3rd, or 2nd , or 5th, turns out to be a complete bust, or, a mediocre NHL player.

No such thing as a ‘can’t miss’ prospect. In any sport. Including the
NHL.

Puljujarvi won’t play for Oilers next season. If he’s not traded, he’ll head for Europe.

- Tyler Cameron

I think he's worth taking a chance on and he could be Stan's latest former 1st round reclamation project. I wouldn't overpay for Puljujarvi, but I think the Hawks have enough mid-level prospects to put together a decent package.

I think the words "we hope" are implied.

Tyler - where's the rumor(s) you teased us with last night? We want rumors. If ya ain't got any - just make one up.
- EbonyRaptor

He already did - Hawks are going to let Gus walk at the end of his contract.

I was at what was called a sugar shack during a vacation up in Quebec - it was more of a restaurant in the woods as opposed to just a maple syrup processing house - but was wondering if that too had different names based upon where one was in Canada.

They're allowed to be 10% over the cap in the off season not 10million

The day the Hawks were gifted the #3 pick - I posted I liked Cozens or Dach.

Since that day, I haven’t given much more to the conversation. There’s only so much speculation and moving of paper divisions down in the bunker we can do.

Tomorrow we shall see.

Morning Tyler , enjoyed the update. I hear the hawks are looking at with great interest Anders Lee ? How true is that and how would he impact fit in Chicago's lineup along with what do you see him signing for?

And do you see Stan also going after Joe Thorton ?

After there were some rumors of Puljujarvi being on the trade block last season, I paid attention to watching him play a couple times and I see the physical talent but I came away with a "what's wrong with that boy" vibe. Small viewing sample but my initial impression is his cranial processing center is a little "dimm".

If they are not going to make the playoffs, then he would go for a decent return, but let's hope that is not the case.
- RaleighHawk

Missing the playoffs AGAIN next year is not an option, or heads will roll. With Cap space, the #3 pick, a load of young talent in the pipeline, a healthy (hopefully) Corey Crawford, another consistent year from Kane and Toews, and a continued progression from ADB and Strome, the playoffs will happen.

The 2 questions I have is what will Bowman do to bolster this team through trades and free agency, and, what will Colliton do to coach this team defensively.

The NY Islanders went from last to first defensively in one summer with a coaching change and a philosophy change. If Colliton is the coach of the future for this organization, then we should see an immediate improvement coming out of camp in September. Can he get his forwards to make the commitment to play a different style and keep the scoring chances against to a minimum ?

It's now up to Bowman to make some smart additions and it's up to Colliton to implement a highly successful defensive strategy.

It starts from the TOP .

Take the best skating C in Cozens if you think he can help at some point next year. Use some of that cap $ on Anders Lee and Brandon Tanev. Trade Anisomov, Hayden and some prospects for some D or bottom 6 help. Keep Saad. Sign Perlini & Kampf. Save some $ to resign ADB. It ain't that hard.

I like the idea of improved size, speed & strength up the middle with Toews, Strome, Cozens & Kampf. That combined with healthy Crow takes a lot of pressure off D-men.

1 - Lee, Toews, Kane
2 - Perlini, Strome, DeBrincat
3 - Saad, Cozens, Kubalik
4 - Caggulia, Kampf, Tanev

D1 - Keith, Jokijarju
D2 - Murphy, Matta
D3 - Gustafson, Seabrook

G - Crawford, Delia

I already hate the pick.
- Ogilthorpe2

Agree.

They should decline the pick so they dont disappointment the masses. Dont even trade it, because they would never get full value.

Simply decline
