Toronto Maple Leafs bracing for activity. Telling teams they will listen on Kapanen and Kadri. Would need a D back in a Kapanen trade and a centre back for Kadri. Strong sense Connor Brown could go as well. - mrpaulish
Looking at the Toronto cap situation - they have $7.7M in cap space (using $82M ceiling) and they still need to replace Hainsey and Gardiner from last season's d-corps plus re-sign Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson. The Leafs have a couple highly thought of d-prospects in Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren so maybe they promote them which eats up $1.7M of their cap space. So now they have $6M to sign Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson. Maybe Marner settles for $10M/5-years and Kapanen and Johnsson re-sign for a combined $8M - that still means Toronto will need to clear $12M which is more than the total of Marleau and Horton contracts.
It will be fun to see how they get out of that mess. Hopefully the Hawks help ease their pain. |

would you do Murphy for Kapanen? - kmw4631
That won't help Toronto with their cap nearly enough for them to lose Kapanen. They will have much better offers.

And Next year is even worse, 10 players signed at $53 million, add Marner, 11 at $64 million, that means $20 million to sign 12 players. Too bad the Leafs aren't in the NBA, where 2 or 3 superstars can win you the Trophy,

Hahahaha!!! I agree with the statement of wanting Zach Hyman in a hawk sweater. I'd love to see Pavelski here too, but I think it's tough to draw him here. I think he likes SJ too much. - I Am The Breadman

He has a 10 team NTC, I would assume he would want to come to Chicago too, Marc Crawford would love his game.

that's assuming they get rid of Zaitsev and marleu. they really need RD so I'm not sure how much Gus helps them.

Rather have Kadri for Gus. Makes more sense. Kadri has the better body of work. Basically swap out AA for Kadri. Cap hits are the same while getting younger. They can get their center in another deal.
Or it could go like this. "We are preparing an offer sheet for Kapanen, so let's make a deal" - Elbows15
Not me - I'd rather have Kapanen and I'd be pleased as punch to give up Gustafsson to get him. In fact, lets make the deal Kadri, Kapanen, Horton for Gustafsson and Anisimov. |

Gus played with Keith a bunch last season which means he played RD a bunch.

There will be a For Sale sign on the great William Nylander soon. |

Looking at the Hawks 2019/20 cap situation - they have $16.2M in cap space with 7 d-men, 2 goalies but only 8 forwards. They will need $5M-$6M to fill out the roster with Kampf, Perlini, Sikura, Kubalik and a 13th forward, which will leave them $10M-$11M is cap space. Setting aside $5M-$6M to be squirreled away to help toward re-signing Cat and Strome - that leave $5M-$6M to use to improve the 2019/20 team.
Obviously there are a lot of moving parts - but that kind of sets the table. |

Pavelski is Versteeg's twin and the Hogs have already signed Kris. Maybe they can be teamed on the same line and Pat Foley can do his "Kris to Joe" thing. |

To Tyler's point in the blog about Gustafson...letting him walk for nothing as a UFA next year (or getting a very tiny return for Pre-UFA rights like a 5th round pick), would be very poor asset management. Gus should be signed or traded before the Trade Deadline. |

I actually like Gus for Kadri, Kadri has spent a lot of time at LW, put him online 1 with Toews and Kane.

JFC, you are the last person I ever thought I'd see suggest Kadri was someone the Hawks should pursue. This idiot is a drama queen who continually gets suspensions for the same infractions arguably causing his team a playoff series. Very few players I want the Hawks to steer clear of, and he's one of the few. |

The player has to sign the offer sheet and be willing to play for the amount being offered - before the offer sheet can be presented to the team. What player is going to agree to play for $1.2M? - EbonyRaptor

Rodman was/is a clown but he actually didn't hurt the Bulls by taking bad penalties. When he was with the Bad-Boy Pistons he was more prone to be a bonehead with cheap shots but by the time he got to the Bulls the league and refs knew his shtick and he didn't get (m)any flagrant fouls or foul out of many games. Besides, a penalty in hockey hurts the team a lot more than a foul in basketball does.
