Nothing wrong with the assistants they hired. Gudas for Niskanen was a solid move. The Braun trade as it stands now, I don't like. I don't think the Flyers should sign Hayes for what it is going to cost. I like the player but he doesn't move the bar enough.
- MJL

Regarding Hayes asking too much money/term, what do you see as the best solution to filling the center spot in their line up?

Keeping Patrick as 2c and using Laughton as 3c
and signing a cheaper 4th line UFA center, or hoping a current prospect can fill in the bottom 6 center spot?

Making a trade for a guy?

If you’ve already posted on this and I missed it, apologies.

it will be Hagg imo. As they probably want to see what Morin can do. Unfortunately they are not in a spot to hand him a top 6 job
- daryl stanley

That's my guess as well. He's a good kid but they obviously needed some vets back there.

Laughton hasn’t shown much in the way of offense to be a 3 rd line center

Hagg is a replaceable player. It's that simple. Doesn't mean he cant play; just way more replaceable than the others.

How do you figure when you dont even know the return? If he is packaged for a guy like Marner (Yes its not gonna happen but hypothetically) is that not a good return that does not set us back? As long as we get a young skilled forward its not burning down anything. You would have a point if Ghost is traded for a guy like Marleau but Fletcher isnt that dumb. He has made smart moves to better the team. You cant sit there and just build through the draft. All Cup winners add pieces. People thought St.Louis overpaid for RoR and look how that turned out.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Ryan O'Reilly is a legitimate two way #1 NHL center who moves the bar for a team. Surely the moves that Fletcher has made do not equate to that. That's the issue. I don't think any of the moves made are actual pieces that help build a championship team. That's the issue. They just make the team better for now and not for the long term future. If they sign Hayes he's most likely going to become an overpaid role player half way through his deal.

Hagg or Morin will be the odd man out. Will be really frustrating if they move Morin after all these years and got what, a handful of NHL games out of him.

you are the first one who I think doesn’t like Braun as a player

Most against the trade because they think it was an overpayment or will cause them to jettison a current young D player (Haag is most people’s guess).

Calling posters idiots who disagree with an opinion is pretty sad, we should be better then that

I still think that forward group needs an upgrade somewhere beyond just Hayes. Still too many passers and not enough shooters imo. If the posts can start going TK's way that will be huge.
- hereticpride

I think its about even

Shooters: JVR, TK, Lindblom, Couturier

Passers: Giroux, Voracek, Hayes

Tweeners: NoPa

That is 8 out of the 9 top 9 players. IF the Flyers trade or bring a guy in they do have options if they can make the numbers fit. You can add a top shooter and push TK and lindblom to the 3rd line or you can you can add a 3rd line guy. As long as Hayes, G and Voracek are on separate lines I think the team could succeed

every move made isnt going to be about the long term future. You need to make other moves along the way to help pave that future.

I'd rather bite the bullet and live with the growing pains of Patrick and Laughton while waiting for other young player such as Frost to take a step up than to get into a long term deal with Hayes. He's likely to become a role player half way through the deal at a 6-7M cap hit. I'd rather they look for a shorter term stop gap. I'll add that I really like Hayes as a player. He'll make the Flyers a better team in the short term but I don't think he elevates the team significantly.

I think it is a legit need to have some support for younger players but there has to be a balance. I think the Flyers are going to far the other way and we have to believe that this will be how they operate every off season.

Every move from this point on should be about building for the future but they have to appease the bean counters.

They're probably going to get similar picks back for Hagg while getting a vet that can help the kids settle down back there so I don't really have a problem with it.

Now if they move Hagg for a 5th that will be a bad move.

JVR is more of a net front guy than a classic shooter. But he scored goals I'll give you that.

Idk, I just think this team needs a real quality sniper. I think the offense is a little one dimensional if that makes any sense.

Agree
But as a 4th line C (or LW) he seems suited to that role, that’s why I asked if Hayes is too expensive and will be likely a bottom 3 role player at the end of his deal, what is the alternative? Trade for a C, or a different UFA, or hope a prospect in house can fill the spot?

The irony here is unreal because literally on the last board you said that anyone who liked the trade is an idiot
