I don't know why people think Ghost is safe now? I think Ghost may become the 1st cap casualty. Under 23m in cap space 5 RFAs to sign and a back up goalie and that still leaves them short at forward.

I could be wrong, but that 4.5 cap hit for the next four years is mighty tasty if you're paying Kevin Hayes and JVR 7 large apiece

Trade Hagg and waive Schlemko saves around 2.8 million.

I was as excited as anyone about Vinny. I’m not holding the Vinny deal against Homer. We all wanted him here until we didn’t.

In Kevin Hayes’ case. New RJ Umberger.

we get it, you dont like the trade. be reasonable with your comparisons though.

All the top guys in free agency are getting 7 years, it s the cost of doing business. No way Duchense and Panarin don t get 7 years. I d bet even Pavelski gets 3 years.
- ravishingone

Nobody forces you to pay that price unless you're desperate ... UFA's are more often than not a bad deal and most GM's are wising up.

A straight hockey deal would surely have been less expensive ... 7 years is a long time. JMO

PS: I'm not trolling ... my own GM has made some boner moves as well in recent years ... hope he learned his lesson.

There will always be buyers in free agency to give out 7 year deals. It isn t going to change anytime soon.

Huh. That could be all they need, if/when they play hardball with the RFAs. Provorov might get some term but it'd be tight

Those who do will probably be out of work before the contract expires.

He was always getting term. Always. People can slide in here and lecture, but no GMs hands are clean in this sport if you are on the job long enough

Every single one has an ugly deal or more on their hands. Every single one

LOL Like Bergevin's gonna see the end of Price's deal. He's lucky he even got to last season

All that to miss the playoffs, to boot

I hated that deal and I still do believe me ... I won't even talk about Karl Alzner.

Sorry. I would take RNH in a minute. I keep reading Ghost for RNH but Edmonton would be stupid to do that deal and Chiarelli's not the GM anymore. And I like Ghost but Edmonton has different issues and lots of them and they need to get multiple good NHL players if they are trading RNH.
- FlyerFan16

Yeah that’s one deal I might take

Otherwise I see them keeping ghost and signing Donscoi for third line depth

I don t think they play hardball with the RFAs, just trying to point out there is still more cap space to be carved out without trading Ghost.

Yep. It was a nice bounceback, but Alzner's got, what three years left? To be in the minors?

Yeah it just shows you have to win while ur the GM

Hedy loves the Flyers like family...

He had a plan but not enough time to follow though...

So it’s win now and the next Gm can deal with the Holmgren leftovers

What do you think Provorov's next deal looks like? Just a guess; I understand it's an opinion. I can't peg one

Understand your point. Karlsson got 8 years fresh off groin surgery and a few yrs removed from ankle surgery. Better to try and sign guys long term after their first contract and buy a couple of years of free agency. Still has its own risks, but at least the contract has the chance to be a steal at the end of it.

7 x 7 for Provy. The more I think about it, I think Sanheim might take a bridge because in 2 years he could reallly cash in even higher average then Provy s. Ironically Niskanen will be off the books.

If we can set aside the contract and trade details for a minute...the team has improved greatly. I’m patient but I didn’t want them to sit on their hands another year. I couldn’t imagine coming back next year with Patrick and Laughton as your 2/3 centers. You just cannot do that. This is better than that.

Coots/Hayes/Patrick is a nice 1/2/3 down the middle. Hayes has skill, he can skate better than coots, he can play some D and he’s long. The 7th year blows. If this were 6 years by 7 mil with no NMC I’d have zero issue with it. Zero.

I am also excited for the phantoms next year and growing some actual promising forwards on the farm for the first time in what seems like forever.

Agree 100%. That 7th year must have been what closed the deal after two weeks. Let's see how this plays out.
