PHI and pending UFA Kevin Hayes are closing in on a multi-year contract with an AAV of around $7M. Term expected to be at least six years, perhaps seven. Prepare to take another UFA off the board.

- daryl stanley

We can hold out hope the term is only for 5 years, but even so woof, that’s ugly

In year 5 what are the chances he’s playing on the 4th line or a buy out candidate?

50 Million! (seven years)

Ouchie...

July 1 no longer most dangerous day... now the fear of July 1 has made people even more drunk before the drunkest GM day of the year.

Sean Couturier might be the best contract in hockey right now.

Good lord.

- MBFlyerfan

Yep. That and Ghost -- because if Tyler Myers gets 6.5-7, wait until you see what Jake Gardiner gets

According to McKenzie, Hayes about to sign for 7 million. At least the Braun trade won t be debated anymore.
- ravishingone

Haha true. We knew it'd take crazy money to sign him.

Just swallow it, Marc -- when it didn't get done in the first few days, I knew it wasn't gonna be less than 6.75 and I thought he might sneak into 7

There's just nobody else out there, because again, Duchene might get 9

What's up, man?

You know you're one of my favorites, but come on, now -- can't have it both ways. Hextall was like Scrooge McDuck, and you didn't like that, either.

Yeah, that's not a small number. But if they wanted to, they could flip JVR tomorrow, I'd bet

It was always gonna be crazy. It just was. That dude was giving zero discounts for a team he'd never played for

Yup, this why bridge deals for Provy, Sanheim, and Konency don t make a lot of sense. Buy some UFA years and gets these Gus extended so you don t overpay in the UFA market.

Yup
But they are going back to cap hell now

If Nolan Patrick was a bit further along in his path this would not have been necessary

It is what it is, but the last ~3 years of that deal are going to be painful

Yeah. I expected that number too but long term. I'm more worried that we'll throw away picks like drunken sailors moving forward. I predict the next deal is ghost and a pick for a forward. We really don't have much room to add an impactful ufa forward anymore.

I think you guys are going to be pleasantly surprised with him. Not the flashiest guy but very good defensively and will put up 50+ points.

Likewise sir! Agreed! Hextall was patient to a fault. Need someone that’s in between. Hayes isn’t close to a 7 million dollar player. And 7 years? That’s absurd. Trading for Brain made zero sense to me. Niskanen trade I wasn’t crazy about but I understand why they did it. Today totally is Holmgren all over again.

I have been a Flyers fan since 1997. I’ve had my issues with our coaches but I’ve never hated a GM until now. Paul Holmgren never made moves like these.

He’s a good player no doubt
Legit 2nd C in the league and can pk
He’s a big guy and not fast, if they get 4 good seasons out of the 7 he’s signed for it’s a win

The last 2-3 years of that deal, yikes
