HE had a NTC. he only would go to the Rangers and 1 other team.
- RogerRoeper

It’s funny because Lindholm has scored more goals than Trouba, has infinitely better advanced stats with tougher starts, has a much more team friendly contract, but he’s a boring top 4 defensive defenseman. I wouldn’t give Trouba the contract the Rangers are about to give him, although it is nice that they managed to get him with the pick the Jets wasted on Hayes. That’s good trolling right there.

This I agree with. I was never a fan of the Hayes trade. The Jets squandered an opportunity to package up Trouba with other assets to go get a legit Number 1B center.

Doesn't matter. One season with the Rangers, then home to Detroit.

Nope..Big reason, he's staying is his wife going through internships at NYC hospitals. He's staying for the long haul

He didn't agree with the Rangers yet. It wasn't part of the deal. But Rangers were a small selection of teams he'd go to. Winnipeg was screwed and the trade shows it.

Sucks Winnipeg has young core pieces wanting out.

- RogerRoeper

The main problem here is that the organization has not done an effective job getting rid of the old pieces. They are responsible for holding the young pieces back. It seems to me that the organization is trying to be liked more than running a business.

I actually like this trade for BOTH teams.

Rangers get Jacob Trouba, a 25 year old D-man who is Def a top-4 D-man. plays physical, and brings offense to the table.
Trouba didn't want to be in Winnipeg anymore, and furthermore, here is a guy who is probably going to make in the neighborhood of $6.5-$7 Mill Per season.

for the Jets, they get Neal Pionk, the 24 year old, right handed D man. he is a solid, puck-moving defenseman. He has offensive instincts and can play on the power play. He makes smart decisions with the puck. could be a 2nd pairing D-Man.

With the 20th overall pick...there will be some nice options for the Jets to choose from. Players such as Tomasino (C), Seider (RD), Brink (W), Suzuki (C), Harley (LD), as well as goaltending prospect, Spencer Knight should be available. Not to mention, the ability to trade up (if they want someone a few picks earlier).

I have a lot of friends who are big Jets fans, and I do feel bad for them on this trade, BUT the problem isnt the trade. It's the series of events leading to it. Asset mismanagement, and a misguided belief that they would resign a player that they knew didn't want to be there.
Let's face it, if you're another GM in the league, and you want Trouba, are you honestly going to give up much for a player you KNOW you have a shot at in free agency? Jets management put themselves in a corner on this one...

The real sad part in this whole situation is that the Leafs weren't able to get him for the same kind of deal...

Allegedly the situation was very similar to the Skinner one in which the player would only agree to sign with on or two teams. Pretty hard to get much in those situations.

Rangers do not expect him to be #1. He is a solid #2 and will get paid that way
- nyrangers2

So you think just because he is dealing with NYR he and Overcharge will forgo their egos and not think he should be paid like the best #1 in the league. You obviously haven't been following the Jets/Trouba saga for the last number of years.

I think he gets $8m for 7 years. If we give him $9 so be it, but that will be an overpay

There is a chance you could be right. But, the jury is still out (way out!) on what Pionk might be. If he figures out his positioning and dampens his offensive instincts at the right times, he could work out quite well for Winnipeg. But, there are some if's there, for sure.
At the end of the day, this came about because Trouba didn't to play in what many see as a nice, little city in the middle of absolutely-(frank)ing-nowhere. (No offense, Pegger's, I love ya!)
On some levels I'm surprised it's not an issue more often.

HockeyBuzz Hotstove: Thoughts on the Jacob Trouba trade?
- ToddCordellVAN

I love it for Winnipeg. Trouba is over-rated, and about to get PAID. Pionk will put up decent offense (25-35 points this season), but is cleaner in his own zone and far more discipline. Combine that with getting back into the 1st round of the draft, and no longer having to worry about overpaying a guy who doesn't like winnipeg and its a great deal for Winnipeg.

There really can't be a winner decided until Trouba signs. If he signs for under 6M AAV, then Rangers have a good deal, if he signs 7.5M+ AAV, then the Jets will be laughing.
