The Flyers improved their team by adding Braun. No doubt. He is better than say Haag. The question is how much did they improve their team and at what cost. The cost is more than just the draft picks.

This is a deal that a team that thinks it can contend makes. If the Flyers think that's them, they're foolish. This is not a deal that a developing team with young players to grow makes. Or should make is a better statement.

- MJL

how are you determining the improvement vs the cost? Is it all stat based or are there other factors that determine improvement?

It's incredibly obvious how bothered you are about being caught making that stupid mistake about Coburn.

Love it.

You're as disconnected as any other guy who berates people for not realizing the Flyers could sign a player as a free agent on July 1st, when that player is not actually a free agent.

No one else has done that, so that makes you the most disconnected person here.

- Feanor

Dude, you are so petty. Coburn re-signed with the Bolts seven hours ago. Not seven months ago.

There is zero reason why I should feel foolish but you can continue to desperately tell yourself that I am.

This isn't correct is it?

Lets just say for hyperbole's sake that the Flyers traded (4) first round picks for someone like Drew Doughty.

You now have a situation where the trade is bad because the Flyers have over paid but the player is still good, because he's a good player.

Thus, bad trade and good player =/= ipso facto bad player.

- shekkie

lets come back down to earth here. Yeah, you can say if they traded 60 1st round draft picks for Doughty, of course thats bad, but you're talking about an unrealistic trade scenario here.

The whining is a joke. No one knows how this deal ultimately plays out. No one will know until October when the team hits the ice.

If ghost can get us a legit right winger capable of putting up 30 goals plus I'm all for it. We have a guy I believe who can offensively step into Ghost's role in Sanheim. If Morin deserves a shot he could get it next year. If we lose Ghost but gain someone like
Brock Boeser, Horvat, Kapanen, Seguin or someone like a Galagher and recoup the 2nd rounder that would be a pretty good team we would have if we sign Hayes. We would have 4 solid lines and defense that is a better mix than it was.

Not true, I would've cared. Nothing you stated here addresses the issue of anyone saying that Braun is a bad player. Get with the program.

I do have a clue why those that don't like the trade don't like it. They said so in their posts. That's one of the dumber statements I've read on here.

- MJL

Let me get this straight, if we acquired Erik Karlsson, you would care that he is blocking a guy like Morin or Hagg?

ha, ok then. and to your last statement, sure ill hold your beer.

The Flyers do see themselves as a team that can contend now. Holmgren said those exact words. Fletcher has a mandate and he's acting on it. I think he's overpaid on some moves but I don't think he's ruined the long term picture either. We'll see how the next two weeks play out.

Yes, I would. The Flyers should not be making those kind of UFA deals at this point in their team's development.

I understand why you would not address my last statement. You inserted your foot into your mouth.

There are literally hundreds of reasons why because you post dumb stuff on here all the time, but just from the past 10 hours there's you being a smug wiener to the rest of us by claiming we "did not realize" the Flyers could go after Coburn as a free agent, and also making the ludicrous statement that "everyone" will be praising "every" move Fletcher makes when he's getting plenty of criticism.

But the point remains that people can think that Braun is a good player but that the trade, even as it exists now as a 2 and a 3, is a bad trade.

The point you made was that by default if the trade is viewed as bad the player is bad, and that's not factual. I used lofty parameters as hyperbole to make my point. We can be as grounded as you like in reality but it wouldn't change that people can like the player and dislike the trade. Ipso facto has nothing to do with it, its not an automatic case.

Pretty sure this argument is lamer.

What I do know is, no matter what Chuck does, everyone is gonna praise his every move as if it’s the right one.

They cannot afford him.

They’d have to trade Jake or JvR but this has never stopped them before from going for a prize UFA.

I lost this discussion a few pages ago, but the point I recall was that there is now a lot less defensemen available. Some UFA’s re-signed or have target destinations. Not as much on the trade market and prices will go up. Still...just waiting to see the whole picture to be revealed before I complain about individual pieces.

No, no, you're right, I understand that it's not a 100% thing. all of the things ive read today however, that the trade is bad because Braun is:

washed up
too old
too many miles
reminds them of Kubina

etc etc etc. I wouldnt call that complimenting his play. and yes its a 2nd and 3rd round pick, i get the picks are high. But as i said before, the odds either of those picks become a player that Braun is even right now, is slim. Picks are gambles, they can turn into All stars, or they could never even play an NHL game. Getting a top 4 dman who plays 20+ minutes, has loads of playoff experience and comes with a RHD shot, who is defensively responsible, for 2 gambles of a 2nd and 3rd, is worth it for me.
