I think guys like Niskanen and Braun could be dealt at next year’s trade deadline if they want to, easily getting back the draft picks. Solid vet RH D seem to be a pretty hot commodity going into the playoffs.
If they sign Hayes for longer then 5 years they will be stuck with some less productive years at the end but he fills a big need for them now.
I’m ok with this, my first reaction today was wtf, but I think they will be a better team.
Just hopeful Ghost is a casualty in this.
Also need the back up goalie to be good one. - Marc D
I’m still of not moving Ghost. Hägg, Morin sure. Ghost is just too much of a scoring threat. He’s one year removed from 65 points, he’s young and on a great contract. If they move Ghost they better get a proven top 6 forward. |

So your conceding that the team won’t be in a playoff race (if their trading them at the deadline) with these moves yet they’ll be a better team?
For a 2nd and 3rd...I would’ve liked someone younger with term that maybe didn’t have to have the polished resume that fletcher is coveting |

The Blues in January looked like a team that was 2-3 years away and even then, they could have easily returned to being the franchise that perpetually went out in the 1st round. That’s until they decided to go ahead and win the whole thing. - Sublime55
Blues were a pre season pick to be a powerhouse that struggled with expectations, that roster on paper was ready to compete, they just needed someone to hit the right buttons and goaltending. |

To see the action bias come into play grinds me even more about Hextall's exit. Looks like Dave Scott got his man.
What a spineless weasel Dave Scott is. Completely lost his testicular fortitude after buying in to Hextall's plan. |

I like the work Fletcher has done. Braun’s a pretty steady guy. I think it’s a prelude to someone of substance getting moved on the backend....I do laugh at people whining about this deal.....the Flyers are flush with prospects and still have 8 picks this weekend. After watching how bad the Flyers were in their own end I’m glad the Flyers are being active. |

I think you're right. Where there is smoke there is fire. It will be the dumbest move they've made since Dave Scott lost his nerve and fired Hextall. |

Do some of you not realize that we could have looked into a guy like a Brayden Coburn on July 1st instead of throwing away two draft picks three days before the draft?

If it’s ghost it could be a major deal. This team has sucked the last 5 years. I’m glad they are bringing in some new blood. What did people expect ? Another sit on your hands GM ? |

Not at all.
I think unless Hart goes backwards they will be in the playoffs.
But if they see that Myers is ready to shoulder the load what is to stop them from flipping Braun and getting their picks back?
Or if Hart has a sophomore slump and they are out of it, he could be traded.
I think Braun is being underrated by us. He’s a very solid stay at home guy.
I like Hagg but Braun right now is the better defender. |

They can flip Braun next February and get the picks back.
I agree with you about Boyle but he’s not really a 2nd or 3rd line C anymore and that is what their need is. I think Laughton/Raffl is penciled in the 4th line C for now. Hayes will be costly but that’s who they identified to get. - Marc D
I want a bottom six center, third or fourth line. Too much is being made of pushing Patrick back and bringing Hayes in. Too much is being made of Giroux going to wing. I don’t expect Couturier, Hayes and Patrick to be healthy all next season. Some players are going to have switch and adjust. |

Braun is a solid vet. If he poops the bed it’s a one year problem.

How lengthy will Coburn’s UFA deal be?
3 years? Longer?
Having Braun at one season gives them a proven D man at a known cost. |

If they can land Hayes. I’d keep him too and look to recoup a 3rd for hagg. Hagg is very cumbersome right now. A ghost/Myers 3rd pairing would be electric |

He took a discount to stay in Tampa. $1.7M per for a guy that is one of the top shot suppressors in the game. And super-reasonable term. |

Cmon dude, Coburn... Boyle? How did Boyle workout for Nash..
Braun has been a decent pairing with Vlasic. I am surprised so many people don't like these moves. At least Fletcher is trying to make something happen, and the expense has been some cap space and a few later round picks. We even get the cap space back in 1-2 years. We might even get a better 2nd rounder in return. Let's judge the full body of work after the draft. |

Who cares if he will outplay them. At some point this team has to move into the phase where we're going to let the young kids play. The Niskanen deal was enough. Improving the team to what level? I'm quite aware that Fletcher is doing what Holmgren wants him to do. Fletcher is a man of action. - MJL
they have let Ivan and 53 play. That play has been inconsistent. Maybe they dont want to make that mistake with myers and sanheim; therefore ease them into it. So easy to say let them play. Guess they should let NAK and others play as well no? |

I don’t know what teams are lined up for Justin Braun’s serves but I’m with MJL 100%. This was a trade deadline deal. I mean, even if this were a must have guy, I’m still tabling it for the day of the draft and if I feel the same way Friday, pull the trigger then. |

I don’t think they resign Braun, but too early to say. He gives Phillips Myers time to develop on the 3rd pair, by taking some hard match ups and PK minutes that Myers may not be ready for yet.
Kind of what Val Filpula did when he was here.
Maybe Hagg isn’t in their plans for the future I don’t know. He does need to play to get better, your question was rhetorical.
