On Gostisbehere...

At this point, after the Braun deal, I would put the chances of the Flyers NOT moving Ghost at about 30%...Three other teams are VERY much interested and the return could be tempting...Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto....

Do they not also have 3 kids in Sweden who are thought of somewhat highly at least in terms of being an nhl dman?
- daryl stanley

Correct, but the only one I would put my money on to make the NHL is Ginning.

this is exactly what id like, this d corps is hands and feet better than any 6 blue liners weve ever employed since the days of Pronger and Carle.

It's actually a really solid group of 6

Has struggled at least twice as much as Ghost.

I'd want Domi but I don't think the Habs are moving him after last year.

Yeah I think there's one that hockey people are high on. We also got St. Ivany here and Kalnyuk (spelling) who I think is a dark horse

Will be hard to juggle the 6th and 7th spots. Morin and Myers need to be playing consistently at this point imo.

This board is a hoot today. Not as good as yesterday when that guy said he had AHL level skills but pretty damn close

Prep for a Provy holdout. Did you really have to say that?
- NC Flyers Fan

I've been prepping for it since last year watching his terrible regression. I was thinking he was playing injured, guess we can now conclude it was his contract on his mind when he was flubbing pucks around.

I’ve been fair to Fletcher. This is a terrible trade and screams Holmgren. I thought he said they wouldn’t trade unnecessary assets for aging players? A 2nd rounder? Damn.

Are the a cup team right now. Probably not. But I don't care if they are a cup team in 2025. I am ready to see progress and a competitive team now.

As much as no one seems to like to bring it up....it is a business. Winning helps the business. Promising theres a chance you might win in 2025 doesn't really work.

- J35Bacher

I think they are a better team now.
Like I said I’m happy to see them fill obvious holes in the line up.

Braun on a third pair or Niskanen are players who I feel comfortable with getting real minutes in an import game or the playoffs. They wouldn’t need to be sheltered.

I know we are talking about the Swedish defenders but I think Kalnyuk (Wisconsin) could be an NHL player

Ginning is more of a Hagg type player IMO

Here is my question. If we sign Hayes for a long term contract we then have coots, Patrick, hayes, laughton at centers. Where does frost fit in?

i dont think anyone disputes that the 2 new dmen will contribute. with what we paid to acquire them, they had better. its just that the consensus has been that the opposing team is winning all these individual trades. and we are pissing away serious cap money in the process for short term moves. everyone wanted fletcher to spend the cap money, just not on mediocre performance. and thats what we are buying here. short term mediocrity. like i posted, would a #1 and #3 get trouba? i can do that trade and pay him too. we have 2 older players on downside of careers, overearning for the brief period of time we have them. lets hear what SJ says about the trade. i guarantee they rejoice!

Where does Cooter fit in when he needs a contract in 2023? Starting to really not like the idea of this Hayes deal.

Hayes can play wing and there is speculation that frost could play wing as well.

Doesn't matter. Flyers should be looking to the future and playing the young players. Not trading draft picks for a 32 year old player with one year left on his deal to take the spot of a young player. Scott and Holmgren pulling the strings. The Flyers are rocketing towards becoming a cap team.
- MJL

It's easy for fans to say look to the future. Fletcher is in a tough place - Management saying win now and others have different opinions. In my opinion he is not doing anything stupid. Minor trades and deals that will help the team short term yet won't hurt them long term. A second and third rounded spread over two years will not make or break the club. Especially the third rounder. Fletcher is simply doing the things that Homer wanted Hexy to do (what he got fired for)...

Young players are inconsistent. It doesn't hurt, actually helps to play them with an experienced player. This "spot" was not the young guys spot, it's up for grabs at camp. In my opinion, Myers, Morin are not ready for the spot. Braun will out play them in camp. I'm not saying dump Myers and Morin, but buy them time until they're ready.

Braun is better than Gudas, Hagg, AMAC... Fletcher is improving the team (Hagg, Gudas) and cutting the dead weight (AMAC)

This trade for Braun is along the lines of Homer giving up a second for Pavel Kubina

More than trading for Subban. I don't think trading one D man guts the youth on defense whether it be for a forward or older defenseman.
- hereticpride

You missed It again. My point is in my opinion, looking at the big picture, they have more forward depth than on defense. They shouldn't be trading young defense for forward help.

From what I see they all liked Braun and say we will like him but are happy because they can keep Karlsson and JoePa.
