Mckenzie talking about Hayes 6 years north of 6.5 possibly... Oh god, that would leave around 23.5M to lock up Provy, Sanheim, TK, Hartman, Laughton, backup goalie. Gulp, buckle up gentleman.

Couple these two picks with the other two he should have received in the Talbot and Niskanen deals. Add the fifth he may have wasted for Hayes and you have an issue. That's five total picks. I have an issue with that.
- mickel25

So you have an issue with improving the team? Reality is 3 picks not 5.

maybe the GM sees a holdout or 2 among Ivan and Travis....

Not going to rationalize this deal but just want to say, let's wait for the larger picture to develop. None of these recent deals do a lot for us individually but we are (hopefully) building to a successful series of deals to better the team.

We also must still rely on our young guys to step up as we did going into last season. Only difference is Fletch is adding supporting/complimentary pieces.

Provy needs a big year. He'll most likely be paired with a vet that can take pressure off of him and help him.

Patty needs a big year. If we get Hayes, Patty doesn't have to worry about tough matchups every night.

In Hart we trust. A solid vet back up (healthy) will support Hart and give him 25 or so nights off.

Patience. All we need is just a little patience...

That is 12.4 million in cap space tied up in Niskanen, Braun, Amac buyout, and the Gudas retention.

WTF is going on here?

- MBFlyerfan

umm we saved money on the amac buyout LOL

That piece is still on books, just included in his breakdown.

What the hell is Fletcher doing? Besides using up all our cap space and wasting draft picks.
- MBFlyerfan

Yeah, all those good feelings from before, when he surprisingly didn't do a bunch of dumb poop on arriving? That's kinda gone now.

The defense is better today then it was a week ago. Just going by that I like the moves, but IMO this frees them up to move Ghost for a star level player also improving the offense.

They are finally making the push they need.

- youarewrong

no you are supposed to be negative that we are improving our biggest weaknesses and flaws with our team with non first round draft picks

If you're a contending team and you need a RH 3rd pair defenseman who can play on the PK, then you did well trading a 2nd and a 3rd for a guy like Braun. If you're a team like the Flyers, this is not a move you should be making. He will take away ice time from younger players.
- MJL

I think it means one of our young dmen is gone, and they want more experience on the back end right away.

lol so my point remains, hes using a smart cap move to justify adding in niskanen and braums contracts in a negative way. pathetic

This is a deal you make during the season or approaching the deadline if you have defense depth issues and need bodies for the playoffs. Not a deal you make in June. It has to mean Fletcher has big plans. It's getting worrisome.

I have an issue with him not getting the correct return in trades. He took on salary and assisted other teams with cap problems in all three deals. Generally, teams get compensated for taking on/retaining salary.

I want to improve the team. However, I want them to be good for a long time. Pissing away picks left and right is not the way to do that. Whether it is five or three picks it is still unacceptable.

I was beginning to think he learned from his mistakes in Minnesota. This thing might turn south really quick, why us, why always us.

If that Hayes report is true, we will only have around $23M to sign all our in-house guys which could get tricky or leave us with no cap flexibility.

we have one of the top 5 farms in the NHL. When you have such a good farm its OK to send 2nd and 3rds to improve your teams biggest weaknesses

That's the reasonable assumption but why? Have to wait and see what they're going to do but I don't like putting the youth on the back burner. They should've left the defense as is. Niskanen deal made sense. Right now, adding Braun does not.

Ghost out, maybe.

Or he doesn't feel like meeting Provorov's asking price.

At this point, we should all be sweating bullets.

Or maybe Ghost is packaged with another forward(Vorachek?) for picks. Sign Panarin. Buy Khakis. Profit.

Everyone: "Fletcher improve the team without giving our young players"

Fletcher: "Ok no worries here's a 2C and some vet defenders y'all were asking for and I only used older players and draft picks"

Everyone: " Fletcher wtf"

And an ass-load of cap-space that you need to re-sign said young players (in a climate where bridge contracts are less and less of an option)
