Y'all need to relax. There was a time when players like Aaron Asham we're employed by this team. This trade, while strange, is not a huge deal

I don't like Fletcher's nonchalance regarding draft picks.
- mickel25

Yeah, I don't love that. 2nd and 3rd is an overpayment, but looks like we're all in for next year..

Isn’t a second and a third what the Sharks offered for Gudas two years ago? I’m not crazy about adding salary for players at the age of 32 and throwing away draft picks for them.
- SuperSchennBros

What the hell is Fletcher doing? Besides using up all our cap space and wasting draft picks.

The last few trades have been a nightmare in my opinion but hey, according to Feanor, I’m disconnected.
- SuperSchennBros

The Talbot and Niskanen trades are acceptable. Fletcher just should have gotten a pick in both deals. This Braun trade I do not understand at all. Maybe he has something else in the works. I full on hate this trade.

I would assume a potential trade from a Toronto perspective would center around Ghost for Nylander.
- ravishingone

If Hayes signs, Ghost for Nylander makes this a pretty formidable team. Both JVR and Jake are tradable when kids start pushing from LHV . Add Farabee, Allison and Frost into the mix. Could have the tools to be good for a while.

This

Also isn't the 2019 2nd rounder we traded the last pick of the 2nd round? Not too bad considering we have a pipeline full of prospects. Sometimes you gotta trade picks and acquire vets. These young D studs need some vet leadership who can play. Excited to see what is to come.

- bmoreflyer

Are we contending this season? I suppose I would understand these deals if we were trading young player in position A, for young player in position B.

Just as long as Fletcher doesn't trade the first rounder.

Estimates;
First rounders ~63% chance to play in the NHL (career player)
Third and beyond rounders ~12% chance to be a career player. So, when you trade a fifth rounder to negotiate with Hayes... Don't sweat it.

It makes zero sense. Picks plus 3.8 million in cap space used up.

The cap space burns me up even more than the picks.

Well they certainly have a presence of RH dmen in the top 6. Even Bill is tweeting after Braun being acquired, if this is a precursor to Ghost for a forward. If it is Ghost, I hope it is for a forward who is similar in age and multi years left on his deal.

Moves for the sake of making moves.

An overpay for a mediocre one dimensional dman. One year left and aging.

Because this truly improves the team?

Asinine.

I don’t think the Gudas/Niskanen trade is really that Necessary. We retain 30% of Gudas’ deal and buyout Mac, we gives us dead space. Hopefully Niskanen does play the top pair with Provorov but why pay such a large price to get Niskanen without considering free agency?

Contending is a subjective position.

How many Wild Card teams beat 1st place teams in the opening round this year?

I remember Homer hating 2nd round picks. We'd trade those 5 years in advance..

This is a deal you make during the season or approaching the deadline if you have defense depth issues and need bodies for the playoffs. Not a deal you make in June. It has to mean Fletcher has big plans. It's getting worrisome.

That is 12.4 million in cap space tied up in Niskanen, Braun, Amac buyout, and the Gudas retention.

WTF is going on here?

So the GM values an actual NHL player who can help over 2 picks who mayor may not help 5 years from now? Interesting.

The defense is better today then it was a week ago. Just going by that I like the moves, but IMO this frees them up to move Ghost for a star level player also improving the offense.

They are finally making the push they need.

The trade makes sense if one of the lefthander D-man is traded .
First time in a very long time they could play with 3 left 3 right shooting D-man

Couple these two picks with the other two he should have received in the Talbot and Niskanen deals. Add the fifth he may have wasted for Hayes and you have an issue. That's five total picks. I have an issue with that.

If you're a contending team and you need a RH 3rd pair defenseman who can play on the PK, then you did well trading a 2nd and a 3rd for a guy like Braun. If you're a team like the Flyers, this is not a move you should be making. He will take away ice time from younger players.
