Ruotalaien as the 3C?? yikes tho.
- JVince11

I already moved him to 4th. That was an accidental slide when moving him up form the AHL. E-Rod on the 3rd.

I was just tryin to break apart Risto, PK and Montour.

I would be fine moving Risto. Use him to land that 2nd line center.

- Mentalorgasm5

I think that is where I am at with this as well

A guy that could move to the wing when Mitts is ready would be ideal

Not sure who is available, But Staal would be amazing.

Risto, Tage, 31, Sobotka for Zucker and Staal.

Might need to add there.

I think you're giving up too much

I like Staal but I think I would want to go younger even though Staal would be great for the locker room

I would Love staal for 2 years at 3.25 mil. Sign me up..

Edit: I am not including Risto however, way too much for those two

Currently?

Reinhart is probably better suited on the 2nd line

Mitts long term is a 2nd line player

But paying a 2C the same amount as Eichel to score 55 point is insane

- Stripes77

They really need Sam, Mitts, and Nylander/Olofsson to be a good second line to compete. Most of their upgrades have no come internally, not from trades and UFA.

Hayes still hasn't signed in Philly. Still makes more sense than Duchene imo

THANK YOU!

If this roster was anywhere near a legit playoff team and needed a high priced player to put them over the hump then by all means go for it.

Until then you're just spending money on bad contracts that COULD hurt you keeping your young core in place.

- Stripes77

So just be bad for the next how long until these “prospects” all turn out.

Year 9 of Eichel.

This team is so good, it should just stay the course. They have too much too end talent. I just can’t handle it.

We can't even consider it atm
- BeadyEyedDouche

Sure you can. Wouldn't you do it in a package for Hall or something similar?

They just resigned him.

Even though he doesn’t have a NTC/NMC, I’d guess they’d get his permission on a trade.

I think the only thing we could possibly get back because of his injury is a conditional pick, which is completely fine.
- Slump Buster

Yeah
Too bad about the injury (again)
He actually played fairly decent last year

Maybe we’d be better off hanging onto him & hoping he can stay healthy till the trade deadline

Sure can, lottery protected.

If top 5 pick moves to year after and an additional 3rd goes with it.

Anyone with an athletic subscription know if Lebrun said CBJ has legit interest in Risto? Just saw it on twitter but it's twitter so who knows.

They are now talking about the cap being less than 82mm.

That’s nuts. It’s awful really.

I’m all for having equal league but so many teams are being punished for drafting and developing well. It kills so many good teams.

That cap needs to be about 10-12mm more

Add - or go to a soft cap, luxury tax system and tax absorbent overspending.

on one hand, CBJ isn't in the division so it has a shot of happening. On the other hand they strike me as a terrible a fit. Wouldn't even know what to ask for.

You do realize that the cap probably helps a small city like ours be competitive, don't you?

Well they certainly don’t have many draft picks left for the next few years and their cupboards prospect wise are thin at best.

No it doesn’t.

We have fans saying that the Sabres can’t sign players because the cap will be too tight in 3 years.

It only helps teams who don’t draft and develope well. IE the Sabres.

Does it? Don't we have to over pay to keep some types of talent so it would hurt us because we have to dedicate a higher % of the cap to keep them.

The Sabres are going to reel the rewards of other teams successes. That is the only way this low cap helps them.

They have been terrible at drafting, developing, spending and asset management.

Same thing goes for a team like Edmonton. Teams have to dump guys for pennies in the dollar because they can’t afford them.

If the Sabres are ever in that boat, people will see it differently.

Nonsense. If you draft well and (more importantly) don't take on bad contracts you might hit the cap. If you do you can turn assets into cheaper assets to keep the talent wheel moving. That's why Toronto isn't nearly in the bad spot that people think they are. At worst they trade some of their good pieces for good younger/cheaper pieces.
