Erik Cernak who’s a very good young D for Tampa was drafted by LA with one of the Fasching picks.

Raw deal baby

The thing about those trades, however, is that if Murray doesn't go out and sign the likes of Okposo and Moulson, he probably still has a job here.
- buffalofan19

Maybe

It's almost like spending big money on July 1st is a bad idea

Your absolutely spot on. I would argue that those signings are way worse then any trade he made (other then the lehner trade) that trade was just straight up stupid.

those signings are just as much if not more to blame for setting the franchise back...

I want to see deals this offseason but I don't want to see deals to make deals

Say they add PK and get Duchene to sign here you're looking at $38 million in cap spent on 4 players in Eichel Skinner Duchene and PK

This team doesn't have the depth to be able to handle that kind of top heavy payroll.

This is where having all of those draft picks that Murray gave away would be helpful

- Stripes77

Meh. Look at what those draft picks turned into from other teams. No one good at all. He squandered tons of 2nd rd picks but even those guys statistically rarely turn into too players. Fasching deal was horrible though

Which is why I am so against spending $10 million to sign Duchene to be a second line center.

I was all about the ROR trade and the EK trade. It got me excited but it wasn't the time to be making those types of trades. A bunch of posters here even said so, and low and behold they were right.

Adding a player like Zucker and maybe swinging for a guy like PK would be a huge offseason here.

I just don't see how spending and trading for almost $20 million on 2 players is

- Stripes77[b[beneficial for this Sabres this year[b\]

Building a 2nd line would be beneficial at any cost to me.

WHo's a second line player on this team????

Colin White is going to be a very good player (he would have been the 4th highest scoring forward for the Sabres last year)

Roslovic had a sophmore slump last year but is going to be a solid 3rd liner

Cernak is a stud in the making

Granted we all know how bad he drafted too so that def didn't help either

Agree. Those signings were absolutely horrible. Said it right after the news broke on day 1

Currently?

Reinhart is probably better suited on the 2nd line

Mitts long term is a 2nd line player

But paying a 2C the same amount as Eichel to score 55 point is insane

I would be excited for this team.

Could still use a 2nd/3rd line center though

so who is playing 2nd line center? Mitt's? Tried that.. He wont be ready for a few more years. Would you take Malkin at 9 mil for 3 years?

This is where I would move Risto but that's a playoff team IMO without moving Risto

I don't know how I feel about Montour on the 3rd pairing though

Just did a semi-similar one but I traded 31 OA and a 3rd for AA and McCabe/Nylander/4th for Kreider. Signed Brett Connolly as well.

Skinner/Jack/Connolly
Kreider/AA/Sam
Olofsson/Mitts/Sheary

Dahlin/PK
Montour/Risto

One really ballsy move that would really kick this rebuild into overdrive that I don't think has been mentioned much: trading next year's first.

Depending on what it would cost to trade for him I would much rather have Malkin for 3 more years than Duchene for 7 at $10 million

I think a guy like Eakin or Haula from Vegas would be the perfect 2C stopgap until Mitts is ready, which I think is sooner than later.

That's the way the majority of the NHL is headed. It's amazing how the teams that win championships avoid those contracts, though.

I was just tryin to break apart Risto, PK and Montour.

I would be fine moving Risto. Use him to land that 2nd line center.
