That’s probably a lot easier than moving Sobatka or Okposo

I do think Larsson & Girgs we’re finally put in their correct roles last year though,
and played reasonably well

Playing 14 mins a night is not Girgensons' correct role

close, a finalist for the vezina

Makes sense. I remember at least one public outburst after he had been pulled. I think it was in Toronto.

4th line, defense heavy situations was his role
Sure, the icetime could’ve been less

That Larsson/Girgs line was the only one that was respectable defensively-
whether u choose to acknowledge that or not

I’m sure you’d rather have had Mitts with extra d zone time though
Or play Sobatka more (freaking yuck)

Well I’m sure he didn’t have much credibility here,
especially the last season

Watch this Vancouver noise turn out to be
Marco Scandella for Brandon Sutter.

Being decent defensively and useless offensively is no more valuable than being decent offensively and useless defensively.

He's a reverse Sheary.

So I'll say again: Playing 14 mins a night is not Girgensons' correct role

I’d still take Larsson as the Sabres 4th line center.

That’s what Sobotka can do already.

Sure, pick one of Sobotka, Girgs, Larsson and Wilson and play them for 10 mins a night

Not true
If u played Mits & Sheary that heavily defensively, then:
1) their scoring would decrease
2) they’d give up many more goals

U can’t just play “offensive” guys in defense roles & expect their points will go up bc they get more icetime
It’s how they’re used in that extra icetime that will play a heavy factor in their production

I'd rather keep Scandella... expiring and cheaper. and... actually puts up more points.

I think Larsson is easily the best of that group

It's not how you'd like to use him, but it's the best Phil had to work with. They need better two-way players, no question there.

If you’re on defense and considered offensive, even if you don’t possess the puck your numbers will clearly go up because your offensive in the defensive zone

Well someone has to play the heavy defensive minutes

Maybe E Rod can handle that & put up some points too, but that’s a “maybe”

We don’t really have a good 2way guy for that role anymore

God that hurts.

I was the biggest Girgensons fan in the world. I really thought with the right center he could be our poor man's version of Lucic or Dustin Brown. He had that 30 pt season in only 60 games.

They don’t just turn into offensive zone time bc u pull Girgs or Larsson off the ice

Add talent and balance the roster so the minutes can be applied more evenly in terms of zone starts, and play the 4th line closer to 10 minutes a night.

This is not a controversial statement: Girgensons shouldn't play 14 minutes a night.

I'm not talking about last year. Last year is over
