Good question. I would assume Cozens/Turcotte plays a season in Rockford as the #1 center. Then, he comes up as the #3 center assuming the Hawks have 3 scoring lines at that point. He would be groomed to be the #1 at some point though.

Tyler, Capfreindly is reporting Karlsson's AAV is $11.5M making the 8 year deal worth $92M - not $88M - so 8-year/$92M deal.

I'll fix... regardless, a lot of money!

Did they plan the shootings?

Why would you ask a dumb thing like that? I've always thought you were above that.

If they win a Cup then it was worth the contract.
Ok with that assessment
But i am always concerned about foot skating speed. For the most part older players with large TOI: can they still produce? It is a gamble made

Point producing older players sometimes can hang on still productive when they know how to score and how to play the game. Agreed again But I would rather pay a bit extra and chop off a year.

Just have to be careful. Look at three Blackhawk examples: Toews, Seabrook, Keith. Make it four with recently "retired" Hossa

I don't consider any of those guys to be 'finished" - age and the cumulative # of games on their odometers takes a big toll but with proper management by the coaching staff they still can be contributors in a big way. Lets call it 'Load Management'.

So is there a period after you sign a player before you can extend him? I can't find anything in CBA. give Pavs a 1 year 7mil deal on july 1st as much as a Signing bonus as possible. then july 2nd sign him to a 2 year 8 mil deal. he ends up with a 3 year at 5 mil. basically but it helps us vs the cap by front loading it?

Turcotte is committed for at least one year in NCAA.

Cozens, Dach and Byram would either have to play WHL or NHL.

That's correct, right? Or am I making things up?

The shootings were a part of the day.

You can bet if it happened in Chicago, there would be plenty of comment about it.

Damn....

Multiple teams I’ve spoken to are very concerned about this cap forecast. Many fear that when the NHL and NHLPA settle on an upper limit this week, it will be LESS than $82M for next season, or an increase of only slightly more than $2M.

I'm pretty sure you're right. As for College commitments, I would think if the Hawks, or any team, made it worthwhile, a Collage player could opt out of their College commitment.

Yes, I think you have to be 20 to play in the AHL, so it would either be the NHL out the gate or back to juniors for them.

No doubt about it Savvy, Hoss would have been one of the few forwards that could have played well into his 40's. Must be something with Slovakian cooking that kept him and Chara going.

Best story I heard Scotty Bowman tell was about the 2013 SC Final vs Boston. He said Hoss was so banged up he could hardly walk and he kept telling Q he was of no help to the team if he dressed for games. Scotty loves Hoss and spoke to him directly and said we don't need goals from you just give us what you can in the DZone to help get the puck out. So he sucked it up dressed for most of the games.

And then a year or 2 later this board was full of criticism about his powder puff shot and he was washed up when he was having trouble scoring goals.

Hoss is an all timer in Blackhawks lore - right there with Mikita, Hull, Pilote, and the current crew of Keith, Toews and Kane.

- RickJ

As I recall, even during the period when there was criticism of his lack of goal scoring, everyone agreed (even the critics) that the rest of his contributions to the team remained intact.

The shooting was horrible and asked in a non flippant way you have a discussion point.

Unfortunately nowhere is safe from the crazy element of society. And by comparison the Blackhawks attracted a crowd about the same size on three different occasions and unless I hadn't heard there were no issues like what we saw here yesterday.

Saw this tweet from Bob MacKenzie.

Just heard the Hawks are open to taken in a short-term "bad" contract if the sweetener is good enough.

So Callahan and Marleau come to mind.

The Trouba deal with the Rangers is ridiculous.

Having said that it seems like every team is looking for defenders. It will be a sellers market. The price for the top pairing defenders will be crazy high (although I guess no one told Cheveldayoff). It will still be very high for 2nd pairing defenders (Maatta). Some GM might even overpay for 3rd pairing defenders that have potential to develop into 2nd pairing defenders. So I am ok with Bowman stock piling defenders at the NHL, AHL, Juniors levels and maybe Byram in this years draft. The hope is that some team in desperation will overpay for a defensemen currently under the Blackhawks control. And if they are willing to seriously overpay for any defensemen under the Hawks control I am ok with Stan making the move.

- -Doh-

Devils advocate here...

Gotta wonder if the Hawks missed out on the Trouba deal...not because the money or the price to pay (which seems like pennies for what he's worth basically a few lottery tickets) but because we moved up in the draft from 12 to 3. I don't think ANYONE would have been against trading the #12 pick and one or two of the many D-men we have to Winnipeg for Trouba to lock that up for the foreseeable future. As awesome as it is to have the #3 pick and exciting that we could get another superstar player in the next few years but I think we all agree we need help NOW and while getting an impact player in a year or two would be awesome doesn't help this aging core at all

Just food for thought

Zadina played for the Grand Rapids Griffins no, and he was only 19 when he was drafted?

Team D issues aside, this team could still really use a power forward that can drive the net. I'm talking about the kind that can protect the puck, lean on the Dman and drive towards the net. Toews can do it, but it seems to take a lot out of him. Saad just doesn't seem to get inside position and play usually dies. AA usually tries and loses the puck, his net front presence depends on someone else doing the work with puck more often than not. I had hopes a couple summers back that Hayden might be that guy, he can project the puck and play big, but I really feel like they need one more guy who can just be physically hard to contain up front to give teams more to worry about. Strome can bring some of that maybe, but I'd like to see more. I think there is opportunity to be that guy for Perlini or maybe Entwistle once he is ready.

Figure out the teams that could be cup contenders, browse their rosters and look for players they would be better without. Those could be the players those teams my wish to move out and are willing to pay for the priviledge.

I think this would be a smart move for the Hawks either way. If they can get a piece back that can help the team while taking on some salary that is gonna expire in a year, why not take it? Price has to be right though

I'm good with this. For once, the Hawks can take advantage of a team in cap hell instead of the other way around.

Tampa, for guys like Johnson or Palat (and Callahan if the other assets in the deal are good enough) or Vegas - A guy like Eakin or McNabb come to mind off the top of my head.

Would the 43rd pick 2019 draft and Beaudin or Boqvist (either one) been a better deal for the Jets?

And that's why Stan got it up the butt with toews and kane's contracts. They forcasted that the cap would have been higher so they were forced to purge.
