PHI and pending UFA Kevin Hayes are closing in on a multi-year contract with an AAV of around $7M. Term expected to be at least six years, perhaps seven. Prepare to take another UFA off the board.

- mrpaulish

I can’t believe I’m saying this....but I think I might prefer having Nylander and his contract.

It's so nice not to be in this situation this year.

With the cap only going up $2.5 mil so many things are going to give

Some really really really nice players are going to become available

Just looking at Toronto, Marleau and Kampanen or Johnsson for a 2nd round pick, they only got $8 mil in cap space and need to sign Marner

Marleau reportedly only wants to go to SJ. He won't accept a trade to another team.

I don't see him going anywhere. Leafs will have to get creative.

That was sarcasm (should have used red font).

He won't get an offer sheet. 4 consecutive 1sts is not worth any player in the league right now.

Think of it like this: Teams that desperately need his offensive talent are bottom feeding. They aren't going to risk giving up a lottery pick (let's avoid another Ottawa situation). Teams that are contending don't have the cap space for him.

It's more likely that he will get traded over signing an offer sheet.

Ouch

If its Nylander it's going to really cost them to trade him.

With a hard cap these owners are crazy for giving these players NTC

Maybe as a 1 year "bridge deal" as a favor to the club so they can get out from underneath Marleau's contract

... and so he can get arbitration rights next summer and really make his $$

Wiz seems to use a weekly roulette wheel to choose the number 3. He's had Dach, Byram, Turcotte and Cozens all in the last two weeks. How this movement happens when there has been no hockey for a month is curious. But it's not just Wiz, many of the online draft publications are doing the same thing, constantly moving the players draft order after Hughes and KK. I wonder, are Wiz and the others trying to anticipate who teams will take rather than they are actually ranking players or is there something in the background that is adjusting why the ranking are changing?

I'm guessing the Rangers have some kind of agreement with Trouba otherwise if Trouba goes to Free Agency and signs elsewhere the Rangers GM is going to look ridiculous.

- paulr

I was pretty certain that my drafts were being cloned and also used as parts of consensus built mocks by more that two publications, and I knew that it wasn't going to hurt anything to do a merry go round over the course of the next days while I actually am feverishly looking through scribbles and trying to find why I justified putting everyone in the 7 rounds at all. IT IS GOOD for internet Hits(Business) if there suddenly is a new order to things...
There was not any part of today that I didn't spend on the draft, because I have to ready to load every REAL pick so I have to keep adding to my "not seven ads", if they are eligible and the teams select them...they are not one person....likeme.

But what I came across by way of a FRIEND WHO PAID FOR a couple online draft downloads is they read like mine, too close in both slot and words that my paranoia set in...and these sites had a dozen writers/prognosticators and I started thinking....here, this something I love doing.. a gift...free to all..my gift...my opinion, (and one that seems to place stress on my marriage due to my fanatic devotion of time) an opinion you can decide to take, or dispute, but to see it used to SELL some download is to me lazy and wrong, and I kinda want to find a way hold back my opinions and have them appear like tomorrow instead of all year round.
Part of today was trying to have some loose decision on the top four rounds for next year...sure very early and fluid, but I wanted to give everyone a look forward to junior play for August 2019 until June draft 2020,,,,I am starting to think I may just nOT do that put one round and let them do their own work!

Paul: All year it is Wiz puts the players as if I am each team, debating until my head explodes but I love doing it...
NOW in the next few by Friday noon, a non travel day, I will try and have player to team, and that is already starting to line up....

I just want to say this once:
If anyone thinks Bowen Byram is ACTUALLY destined to be an all around impact number one defender (and that the deficits that I have brought up and a couple other folks are now acknowledging), the entire draft board is stuck at slot three (causing us an inability to try and fill after the three slot forward tumble) is resolved in one of the following:
a) The Hawks are attempting to enjoy the projections of Byram there and will be involved in discussions of plenty of scenarios that are short jumps where they still secure a big centre/big player?
b) This would mean they HAVE decided on going for an impact forward.
c) The only logical trade down candidate WOULD be the Kings and at this point I have pretty much convinced myself that the prowess of Spencer Knight, his upside in place athleticism is going to NOT SEE HIM on the board by that second Kings (Leaf's) pick at slot 22...he won't last, and they are not trading the pick for Derek Forbort or a player on a King's teamer to another lower than slot 6. Not good business long term for the franchise.
d) The Blackhawks have locked on Byram and are not looking back and his defensive failing are only a figment of my imagination and he a good business decision for the state of Chicago NHL hockey and
e) The hawks are bypassing the forward position in this FAT class of upside forwards, or
f) They are trying to sucker the Rangewrs to make a mistake.

Two thoughts

Jets as I thought got FAR LESS than expected, they lost the Trouba deal period.

Kevin Hayes signed a bridge deal...but it is Philly that got the bridge...

the bridge over troubled waters!

Absolutely. I'm not trying to discredit them from their accomplishments. They wouldn't be where they are if it wasn't for their compete and love of the game.

I just simply think that in many instances, when players are interviewed or ask about their thoughts on winning, they're being propped up to answer those questions the way we expect them to, even if deep down it isn't necessarily always of first and foremost importance to them as we make it out to be.

But you're absolutely correct.

- TommyHawk

Yeah I definitely agree with you there, these guys have a lot of things to consider outside of winning hockey games, even though as fans, we want that to be their top priority.

Hayes was a pending UFA, Strome and ADB would be RFAs so it’s not an exact comparison. That being said, this free agent movement might prompt Stan to re-sign Strome and ADB long term, it will only be more expensive next summer.

Lotta good mock drafts and simply rankings but my favorite of all is McKenzie's list. It's the average of 10 NHL scouts. Should root out any bias. Scroll down for the list if you don't wanna watch the vid: https://www.tsn.ca/americ...f-the-nhl-draft-1.1323878
- Mr Ricochet

I just read the McKenzie list I love the line about the picks:

:One final note on the rankings: Prospects from Nos. 25 through 50 are, more or less interchangeable. Which is to say every player ranked in the top 50 got at least one vote as a first-rounder. Swedish defenceman Simon Lundmark (No. 61), U.S. high school defenceman Jayden Struble (No. 63), Swedish defenceman Albert Johansson (No. 72) and even Swedish centre Karl Henriksson (No. 83) had noteworthy, albeit isolated, first-round support."

LOL. I would love to just say look at my guesses at slots 25 through 50 and you can interchange them.[

I know my boards have proof since 2018 where I have those 25-50 and they basically have been there for a long while...

THERE are written profiles by me on DraftSite on each and every of the "50" and I am frantically trying to finish the 6th and 7th as I am running out of time...

The cap is killing the league, fairly soon half the teams will be in cap hell
something needs to change outside of the obvious.

- gazza53

The recent disappearance of the so called “bridge deal” is primarily to blame for most of the teams that are in Cap hell, IMO. The most recent few classes of high end RFA’s have been skipping a step that helped building teams continue to build.

When RFA’s go right from entry level deals to superstar max deals, it can handcuff teams very rapidly. Basically, if you don’t win a cup while a couple of your young studs are still on their entry level contracts, you’re screwed...just ask Toronto.
