The very same. Is it sad that 2015 Rosi would probably be in our top 6 today?

Pat top NCAA clubs will screw kids time and again pulling their commitments. Happens all the time..........

If the Hawks draft Turcotte, he comes to camp, Hawks say we want you this yr I don't think there's a question Turcotte would play NHL this yr.

Didn't fact check this but read on the Twitter today a very interesting stat in the hard cap world:

only once in the last 10 years has a team had to wait more than a year for the 3rd overall to pan out. (strome)
4X the #3 made the big club the first year. (duchene, galchenyuk. draisaitl and kotkaniemi.)
5X it took a year. (gudbranson, huberdeau, drouin, dubois and heiskanen.)

- Mr Ricochet

Two things about that list.

1) A few of those teams were in deep rebuilds.

2) Some of those youngsters were arguably not ready or not near their potential when they made their debut and didn't immediately hit their potential or make a big impact.

Duchene was NHL ready
Gudbranson wasn't and didn't live up to expectations, he should have gone 3rd IMO.
Huberdeau was okay but got going well in his 4th NHL season IMO.
Galchenyuk took 2-3 years to get up to speed
Drouin got going in his 3rd season
Draisaitl needed another year hit his stride more in this 3rd year and now is a force 5 years in.
Strome has taken a few years to get traction
Dubois was decent but much better in year 2
Heiskanen was good this season, but I'd argue he isn't a complete product yet, probably going to be a real good NHL dman in another year or two.
Kotkaniemi was okay his first season but seems like he has a lot more room to grow to hit his potential.

I'm just saying odds are good that the Hawks get a player that might contribute some in the next year or two, but might be 3-4 years away from hitting their stride at the NHL level.

Whatever happens it’ll be interesting to see how whoever Stan picks pans out in comparison to the Avs, Kings, and Wings pick five or so years down the road.

I know the hard cap has forced kids up early but this was very very surprising. I posted this just as information not in any way suggesting what the Hawks will or should do. One thing I notice off the top of my head all but 2 of the kids on the list are from the CHL and would be stuck in Jrs until they were 20, can't play AHL until then, unless they made an NHL roster before that. Meaning some would be stuck for a couple yrs putting up 120 points in jrs wasting at least a yr of development.

Here was my reply to the tweet.

Good info. The game has changed due to the hard cap. Kids are up with the big club when they should be developing. Not all but most. NHL has become part developmental league for better or worse.

Lotta good mock drafts and simply rankings but my favorite of all is McKenzie's list. It's the average of 10 NHL scouts. Should root out any bias. Scroll down for the list if you don't wanna watch the vid: https://www.tsn.ca/americ...f-the-nhl-draft-1.1323878

Would allowing those drafted to go into the AHL help the situation?

For most, yes. The AHL would serve as a useful stepping stone for most players as they continue to develop and ready themselves for the show.

More speed to the game and playing against more physically mature competition.

PHI and pending UFA Kevin Hayes are closing in on a multi-year contract with an AAV of around $7M. Term expected to be at least six years, perhaps seven. Prepare to take another UFA off the board.

Yeah, I was just curious so that is why I dug up the info and of course some of it is subjective. I think the Hawks will draft a good kid, but I hope they don't rush him unless he is ready. I think we are all excited to see who it is.

Wow... it’s all EK’s fault LOL. I’m hoping Stan pulls a “Gorton” and raids Vegas roster... especially with rumor cap will be lower than projected $83 mil.

RW Tuch 23, 7yr $4.75
C Eakin 28, 1yr $3.85
LD McNabb 28, 3yr $2.50
IR Clarkson 1yr $5.25
1st rd 2019 (17th overall)

AA 2yrs $4.55
Perlini’s rfa rights
Hayden $750k
KooKoo $925k
Dahlstrom $850k
Ejdsell rfa rights
Krys ELC
2nd 2020

Saves them around $8 mil off cap to sign Karlsson....but they’ll probably need to trade off Miller and 1-2 more.

Stan....get er done

I’m not singling you out here, but it’s a pet peeve of mine when athletes are assumed to be committed to winning the way we perceive them to be.

The amount of athletes (in all team sports) that TRULY, and I mean, TRULY care about being the last team standing is so overblown out of proportion.

Not every guy in the league has the “win at all costs” mentality. That Kobe Bryant/Michael Jordan obsessive mentality is so, so rare. The true greats in the league hope to cement their legacies so aside for personal accolades, they obviously want to win to boost their credentials, but for the average player who won’t be remembered as early as a year after retirement enjoy the ride.

Player want to be happy, on a team they enjoy playing on, in a city they enjoy living in, getting paid their fair worth. Winning is gravy.

They can put on whatever persona they want about how “devastated” or “pissed off” they are when their teams aren’t succeeding, but at the end of the day, they play the game because of their love for it, and the benefits that come with it. If they win, they win. If they lose, they lose.

But the misconception of players “having a winning mentality”, etc. bothers me because that’s just not always true.

- TommyHawk

I go back and forth on this. On the one hand, it is a job for these guys and for sure winning isn’t the only thing to consider. On the other hand, these are some of the most competitive dudes in the world, that’s a big part of what got them there, and a lot of these guys I think have deep rooted desires to win and be great, just like the rest of us. So while I do think that maybe fans overblow it a bit, I think these guys have a lot of give a poop for winking the cup.

Hell, i was devastated losing my men’s league hockey championship in the C division. Having said that, after winning 3 cups like toews Kane and seabs and proving your worth as a legendary nhl player, maybe that drive goes down a bit.

So I do understand where you’re coming from, but I think you’re discounting a lot of these guys’ hunger a little bit.

Absolutely. I'm not trying to discredit them from their accomplishments. They wouldn't be where they are if it wasn't for their compete and love of the game.

I just simply think that in many instances, when players are interviewed or ask about their thoughts on winning, they're being propped up to answer those questions the way we expect them to, even if deep down it isn't necessarily always of first and foremost importance to them as we make it out to be.

But you're absolutely correct.
