Wouldn’t a player who consistently makes correct risk assessments be considered high IQ?

So why exactly is a player who is poor at play risk assessment not considered low IQ?

Risk assessment in plays is certainly not the only factor for hockey IQ but it is definitely one of them.

My contention was more that I find low-IQ doesn't accurately describe the actual issues that I've seen and paints the wrong picture of the player (my definition of low-IQ traits were listed in my prior post). It's not a wholesale rejection of risk-miscalculation as a low-IQ trait, but a distinction that I think is important.

I wouldn't call Karlsson or Burns low-IQ yet they make plenty of those risk mistakes. Players with skill using that skill to try to make things happen and failing once in a while isn't something I characterize with that term- least of all when it's a 17yr old doing so against pros. I don't see that issue cropping up often against his peer group.

I hate to go back a subject or two, but I continue to read that the Oilers need to send a sweetner, for the older less usefull forward. At least with Looch we got am overpaid doug glat, tippet has done well with older players, we at least gotten usefull minutes out of thought to be done players in the past, if we have to send a sweetner for some one like Loui, would it not make sense to hope he has a wicked pre season and Chia is hired somewhere else! I know the last part is wishfull thinking. But seriously what am I missing?

Corey Perry has been bought out....for Chiasson type money I actually wouldn’t mind him in hopes he would play like he has something to prove....can’t see him getting much for money but that won’t matter since he is still getting paid by the Ducks
