Don’t underestimate the importance of competent management/ownership. The Red Wings are in great hands; Stevie Y will turn things around in a hurry. Ottawa is going nowhere until they somehow remove Melnyk, and there is no end in sight to that.

Kapanen is younger and faster, Kadri is cheaper and more productive.

They definitely need help on defense and if it costs Nylander and Johnsson, so be it.

thinking well dodged two bullets so far.... didn't make a bad trade for Maata or Trouba, and didn't get the overpaid defensive liability. Better trade options as mentioned out there though hell no to Subban. Guy is all about himself, don't need that attitude on the team, and guy is Karlsson lite and the cough ups are attrocious with him too. Yup. The next two years will likely be tough sledding, but everybody in this room watched the Leafs screech autistically for a decade with no direction. When Shanny took over, and they started to suck with purpose, it became a lot more enjoyable. I suspect Red Wings fans will find the same with Yzerman.

After Silly Season is over after July 1st, Nylander's contract will look like a bargain.
