I have a feeling either Rafferty or Woo might make it out of camp. Just a feeling .
- VANTEL

I liked the small sample size of Rafferty & expect him to make it.

All fair points.
Although some may give Nighthawk a bit of a hard time, myself included at times, he is pretty good at dishing it out as well.
I don't think anyone could ever question his dedication, as a fan, to our favourite team.

If he makes the team out of camp, it means the team has not actually improved the D as they said they wanted to. Is he an upgrade on Biega? Maybe, but you need to do more than marginally upgrade your number 7 or 8 damn for real improvement.

I think what everyone wants is change and that ranges from hiring a President with experience to signing Panarin. I think we are just tired of this team spinning it's tires.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Both would be an ideal improvement.

Edler will sign whatever’s on the table when the time comes. He’s a beta’s beta.

You can’t be afraid to trade a player because you have an emotional investment. If you are, you end up with 35 year old twins keeping you from experiencing the necessary pain of rebuilding, and stretching out said rebuild to twice the time it should have taken...
- 1970vintage

I have no problem with the team holding onto the sedins and hope Horvat is always a canuck.

Sedins weren't the reason this team wasn't willing to rebuild....knowing them, I'm sure they don't mind taking the blame for that one as well though.

What was the reason then? Is it a coincidence that the same year the twins announce they are retiring that the management actually says rebuild, instead of whatever term they threw around for the previous 3?

Trading the twins was never an option, but if you are too afraid to trade a player because your are emotionally attached, you will never succeed in this business.

People here talk about being willing to give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to offer sheet someone else’s RFA, or picks and prospects/players for a young D that can’t fit into a system yet. I want the Canucks to be in a position where they have so many promising up and coming players that they can afford to trade a guy like Horvat for the kind of return that perpetuates their prospect system at an elite level. The only way to get there is to have more selections, not fewer, and the only way to get more selections is to move players that are in demand league wide.

Nighthawk puts out multiple trade or acquisitions proposals as discussion points, he constantly is asking for others opinions. He takes a lot flack for constantly posting rosters or proposing trades and he is at times ridiculed.

Most of the posts against his proposals are to have patience and draft and develop. Then another team makes a trade, today Trouba, and the patient draft and develop crowd starts to criticize Benning for sitting on his hands while players get moved about.

The patient draft and develop crowd also want a complete overhaul of the backend, but under no circumstances are any of the defense man available desirable.

The whole narrative by most here is head spinning, get rid of Edler, Tanev, Hutton, Biega, do not sign Trouba, Gardiner, Myers, so that leaves Hughes and Stecher

Get rid of Granlund, Goldobin, Sutter, Beagle, Schaller, Spooner, and only use present prospects and possible draft picks from getting rid of the already mentioned, because Benning can’t be trusted to make a trade or sign a UFA.

As I said, fcuking head spinning

- Makita

I have the same observations ....and it's maddening.
If we followed what most here want we'd have no Dmen left, all traded for forwards. We'd have traded all the goalie talent cuz they're at their peak value. We'd have traded every player that gets good In the name of asset management. All the role players would be gone and without any players with speed.
Thank God no one here is in line for a GM job.....

Rafferty & Schenn rotate as 3rd pair RHD. Until someone else is traded for or a UFA signed the depth isn’t there. 1st Fox now Trouba is gone so i hunt for another.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Rafferty to make the team, because that means they didn’t trade their 1st plus plus for Trouba.

I want scoring D if to be had or live with them. Shows that Tanev is necessary to have. Focus on a top 6 F is still a big need.

It’s just a Canucks forum. Give me absolutes any day over paragraphs of perplexingly authoritative hedging followed by “but I’ll be happy with whoever they pick/trade for”.

If it doesn't get by the end of the draft then I'd say he's probably gone, but too soon for now. Both sides are probably just getting frustrated or being stubborn, hence the media leak. Benning's probably being stubborn(which is great) and Edler's camp is probably frustrated.
- Nucker101

He's said for years he doesn't want to leave Vancouver.....so if he wants to stay that bad he has to cave. But I suspect he'll hold out into FA, watch us sign someone else then have no leverage and signs for less

If Detroit was still full of Swede's, that probably would've been his backup plan.

I can see him ending up in Florida if he does walk.

Taking a small break. Letting stuff sink in for my final prep for Friday. Rounds 2-4 are more interesting for me now. Saturday will be a big day.

My next rankings will include needs also since teams don’t always pick according to script. Predicting the 9 who go before us.
