No, I really hope they steer clear of Trouba. As you pointed out earlier, we need to win while people are making pennies. ADA is a bunch closer to making pennies than Trouba will ever be. A ADA-Fox-Shatty right side is solid enough as is. Then we could start bringing people up eventually.

We don't know if Fox is NHL-ready. Certainly hope so, but he might spend some time with the Pack.

Bob McKenzie
@TSNBobMcKenzie

All signs are pointing to Erik Karlsson returning to SJ and re-signing with the Sharks, which would take the most prominent name off the 2019 UFA board.

because he isn't signing with the Rangers his foot problems disappear and he just keeps winning norris trophies

It's for sure possible. There will be some growing pains early. I just think that we can shelter him early if we have to. I know with Kakko/Hughes and possible Panarin that expectations are sky high, but we have to remember this is probably still just a borderline playoff team next year. I'd rather see if Fox can stick in the lineup if possible.

welp, at least they'll be no second guessing about the Rangers having a chance to sign him and they passed, they never had a shot

lots of wasted chatting and arguing about this guy over absolutely nothing

's report on Erik Karlsson, I'm told the deal is indeed done: 8 years max deal, north of $11 million per season... the Sharks with a huge move in keeping the superstar D from hitting the market.

Sharks really doubling down on this impending cap doom aren't they? Whenever this thing hits the fan it could be worse than the Kings and at least the Kings have multiple Stanley Cups sitting in the trophy case

They're really going for it. If they don't win a Cup, when their talent eventually dries up they're going to be basement dwellers for probably 10 years

With guys like Fox, Kakko/Hughes, Russian Invasion and possibly Panarin, it's easy to get ahead of the rebuild. Have to dial it back to what you said about being a borderline playoff team.

Gonna suck for the Sharks if there is no CBA buyout. They are going for it now, Cap be damned!

It's not out of the realm of possibility to expect a better season than last. 6-7 more wins would make us a borderline playoff team. Could happen. Could also not happen.

Yeah, and Ottawa gets another 2nd rounder in 2021.

Seems like the market kind of dried up for him. I don't think teams were offering the years the Sharks were because they didn't know the extent of his injuries. On the other hand, the Sharks know exactly what is going on w/ his injuries, so maybe they're comfortable that the injuries are not that serious or long term.

Who knows now. We just saw the Blues win the cup that was a last place team before basically an AHL goalie comes in and carries them to the cup. Pietrangelo and probably Tarasenko is better than anyone on the Rangers roster (not including if we get Panarin), but can you really say their roster as a whole is that much better?

Someone should really offer sheet Meier or Labanc. Throw one out there for Meier at $6,341,152 x 4 years and I have serious doubts that they could match it. Only costs a 1st and a 3rd next year and the chances of you finding a guy that's going to score 30g at age 22 in one of those two rounds next year is slim-to-none.

I imagine the agent had his ear to the ground and knew something, but how did EK really know that? UFA hadn't started yet. I think there is something to the idea that teams were going to shy away from term. I also think that someone would have offered him those 7 years.

San Jose better win soon, they are going to be in a world of hurt in the not too distant future, regardless of how the EK contract pans out.

I think he probably told SJ what his preferences were and threw out a massive number over the max term and told them that a deal that size is the only way he'd stay and sign before 7/1.

Which makes me worry when teams like the Caps are aggressively clearing cap room. Still can't believe they were able to wiggle so much away from Niskanen's contract.
