Bogie, how is a 52 year old guy and old, tired, retread? Know if you’re talking about someone that is in their middle to late 60s, I get it, and I respect the next guys opinion, I think Ken Hitchcock still would be an effective head coach for a team , unless everybody is looking for the next Theo Epstein, Kyle Dubas, or fill in the blank as far is young and up-and-coming type coach or executive.
John McDonough had a pretty good interview last night on channel 9 , when he said a lot of this was based on hope regarding some of their decisions including the coach.
I’ll stand by what I said earlier, that my worry is if this goes south, guys like Kane Toews ,Seabrook Kieth, etc. guys did have one cups here, are going to shut this young kid down, kick him in the ass, and put him in a corner.
Part of the reason Mark Crawford was brought in. Let’s hope that Jeremy Colleton is successful.

For what it is worth, I really felt that Dallas Eakins was put in a now-win situation in Edmonton and deserved a better fate....I like his style and I am hoping the best with Ducks.

I'm not necessarily advocating a Gustafsson trade, but with Karlsson locked up and the season Gus had it might be the best time to move him.
- DarthKane

I would agree....

You have 3 D men as of now...keith seabrook, Maata…..that's it. The rest should be listened on to see what return you can get.

Murphy does little for me. Problem is I don't think he does much for anyone else either so getting another team to take him and get a decent return? I doubt it happens. That trade for Hammer is up there for BOMBS by Bowman in his tenure.

Great tidbits TC. I am on the fence about this trade. When you look at teams win Cups, guys with Kahun's skillset usually are invoolved. I liked his ability to play anywhere in the lineup and think he will be missed.

On the rumors about Murphy. For me, you dont really get the title "shut down guy" til you do it in the playoffs. We havent made the playoffs since he has been here so we dont really know. He had a nice year and a huge issue we had was keeping pucks out of our net. We shouldnt look to move a guy that helps with cutting that down. Saad seems to be the chip that can provide the depth D piece and cap space if moved.

Pick Byram and you will be all set!

- nickmo2699

I think Kahun became "expendible", because the Hawks are looking to get bigger and a bit tougher. Others have mentioned before, they never replaced the grit of Andrew Shaw (although not big he plays bigger). Caggiula showed signs of it, but he also is small. Look at what each team in the final 4 had, one guy who was an ass to play against, Marchand, Perron, Haley, Ferland Reeves. Also look at the new assistant head coach Marc Crawford, and his style of play, and when Colliton coached Rockford, they were big and nasty all over that roster.

Not saying the Hawks are looking to become the reincarnation of the Broad Street Bullies, but I believe they are looking to get bigger.

Washington has Wilson and Gudas now, wonder the moves Tampa and Toronto do in response.

You’ll like Määttä! Good positioning and good hockey IQ. Does little things well. A little slow but works on his game a lot. I didn’t want to see him go at all. Good luck in Chicago.

THANKS ! Hey how was Maatta during the Pens two cup final victories ? he had to be pretty good to get a raise up to 4 million from his entry level deal. I think the Hawks are couting on him playing in that form Seems the injuries slowed him down

From Mark Lazerus via The Athletic today: “I’ve heard from a couple of league sources that Joe Pavelski is intrigued by the idea of coming to Chicago should he leave San Jose.” #Blackhawks

Not sure what he would fetch AAV at 35 years old but did pot 38 goals last season. Why not raid SJ for their free agents(Nyquist, Donskoi, Pavelski) and go for broke? Knocks out the perennial top team in the West to boot.
- Assman22

Nyquist would be a great addition. Wasn't Chicago rumored to be interested in him when he was in Detroit?

Then I’ll do it.

Trade Gustafsson right (frank)ing now.

Maybe Tampa is interested after losing out on Mr. Overrated.

Any idea of his value? A first and a prospect?

Agree here given TB cap situation.

Wonder if Toronto would be interested in Gus. One year at 1.2M will help their cap situation. He can replace Gardiner for one year and help on their blue line with the pending trade of Zaitsev. Maybe get a Johnsson or Kapanen in return. Toronto gets an offensive defenseman and 3-4M in cap savings.

Gus to Toronto could make some sense... he might make Babcock go mad though!

The Leafs have so many moving parts right now and Marner is obviously the priority.

Keep an eye on them. Their situation heading into this week is similar to the Hawks Summer of 2010 purge.

This bad thing is... the Leafs haven't won anything yet.

Gus for one year of Callahan's contract plus one of their top prospects like Katchouk.

Here's an article regarding TB prospects.

A source just told me the Hawks are leaning heavily towards drafting a center, and it's not necessarily Turcotte. Zegras, Dach and Cozens all possibilites as well. Ah, the Bowman curveball. Wouldn't be an NHL draft without one.

I have no idea what his actual value is, but whatever his value, it’s likely more right now than it will be next summer when he’ll be due a raise that the Hawks likely (hopefully) won’t be able to afford.

Given the money that EK just got, there is apparently a market for high end, one dimensional d-men in this league, but hopefully not here.

Give me Eric Cernak ALL DAY. He is exactly the type of young, big, physical, and MOBILE Defenseman they need. Anthony Cirelli or Anthony Joseph would be excellent additions too. JT Miller had a very down year and was playing 4th line for them at times, but he would still be a boost to the Hawks depth for sure.

Even though it’s highly unlikely, I’m hoping they trade down a few slots, get another asset or two, and still pick in the top 12 or so.

If Lankinen is the real deal and you like Delia, Gravel, Nalimov or a FA as a backup do you let Crow go next summer and save $4mil in cap space (Crow $6 mil. and Lankinen maybe $2mil as RFA signing.)

Could you sign Marner to a $10.5 offer sheet with the plan to go with Lankinen in net and not resign Strome. We could afford Marner this year and he would make the Hawks an instant cup contender.

There is still work to be done on D. But we have some young prospects and we can probably sign/trade for vets to bridge the 1 year 2 year gap until the kids are ready on D.

If it is TB, then why not ask for Cal Foote? If Gus goes, why not ask for D prospect in return especially a big boy like Foote.

Im with you but with the talent 3-10 if you are sitting in that range you can probably wait to get your target. Right?

Sounded like Pavelski is intrigued by Chicago if he isn't resigned in SJ.

The Erik Karlsson resigning today for 11M per (wowza) isn't going to help.

Pavelski would be a great addition on a short-term contract. I doubt he does that, but that would be my vote.

- Tyler Cameron

I just can't see little joe leaving the family of sharkdom...but that karlsson contract is nutz and show the GM have not learned anything...

and what does thorton do...

yet the sharks have 7 forward slots open with now about 14 mil in cap space; not sure that both joes are coming back

stanbow will be doing somethings not expected by this blog...

a trade down to 5th or 6th is a real possibility if there is team willing to pay up for a player they want and the hawks don't...

I can see it being very similar.

Perlini could get up to $2M if he signs for 2-3 years.

Guess it all depends on where the Hawks see him fitting in.

- Tyler Cameron

not being extended yet...tells me his rights could be included in deal...
