People are freaking out needlessly. Stan has lots of options!

1. Send Gus and Mitchell to Detroit for Bertuzzi and Joe Veleno.

2. Move the 3rd overall and Beaudin for Edmonton’s 8th and Oscar Klefbom. Use the 8th to draft Turcotte, Cozens, Zergas or Boldy, whoever is available.

3. Move AA to Car for a 4th.

4. Sign UFA Paquette for 4 years and 2.3 million per year.

Hawks upgrade significantly at defense, as Klefbom is a good #2 and would theoretically pair well with Boqvist when he is ready.

Hawks also add a nice center prospect in Veleno, and Bertuzzi, who is a tryout as he is off the books next year, adds a “ Shaw style” game a team that needs it.

Paquette is sneaky good. I think he scores more goals playing with better team mates and is one the leagues best defensive centers.

Bertuzzi - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Kubalik
Saad - Paquette - Sikura
Kampf Harkarainnen Cigguala
Perlini

Keith - Klefbom
Matta - Jokiharu
Murphy - Seabrook
Dahlstrom

Pipeline is then rich at D still with:
Boqvist, Joki.

Center/forward:
Veleno, 8th pick

Some good ideas there, especially the Detroit one, I wish we would’ve took in that Veleno kid when we had the chance., But ........... seeing the little piece on channel 9 the other night with John McDonough....... in reading between the lines, I interpret that as, missing the playoffs is not an option this year! And looking at that lineup I just don’t think it is a playoff team.
I don’t think they’re going to roll with four or five of Stan’s “lightning in a bottle I was never drafted “but signed overseas from Europe type players in the lineup.
I think they’re going to look to add through free agency and trades and you might see one or two of those kids but not four or five. I would say Kampf and probably Sikura, or the kid they got from Los Angeles.
As of right now this is just my opinion, we will have to wait to see what it all looks like come mid July after everything is done.

He'd work well with Marc Crawford though.

Yo Zo, I asked a few scouts I bother from time to time on the Twitter the same question. You take the #1 D or the #1C and they all said D. I'm in the Chunk camp, I think. A centerman covers every inch of all 3 zones and takes faceoffs. He can stop an attack in the Ozone and neutral zone better than a Dman can.

But the new age Dman is the trigger. Very very few have the poise, speed of thought, vision and or feet and skill to get the thing the hell out of the Dzone while under crazy pressure to not only relieve pressure but start an attack.

Tough call...........

If that defenseman has the ability Lidstrom had, you've got to draft him, but according to Wiz, not so much.

I was hoping he would be as good as Heiskanen but it sounds like he's more like Klingberg.

It'll be interesting once the draft gets here

If you are playing JR A Tier 1 Hockey, you have to have self confidence, which can come across as arrogance to be successful.

Doug Wilson must be banking on Karlsson retiring before his contract ends, which is the out for older players getting contracts with terms longer than make sense. There probably is some economic incentive for the player to retire. Look at the Seabrook contract and you will see that starting this year he takes a pay cut. To be an NHL GM must require a lot of praying.

Doug Wilson is banking on retiring before then, leaving it as someone else’s problem.

I've not really watched Matta play all that much. Seabrook has never been fast, but he made up for it with positioning/IQ/physicality/etc. Is this guy really as slow/slower than Seabrook? If so how has he been in the league for so long?

All the reports I've read so far say that he is a very hard worker on his overall game. I would think that would help negate a lot of his shortcomings.

One last thing that popped into my mind about everyone worried about speed, of all that teams that employ a majority of "plus skaters" on the backend, how many are really good defensively?

Speed is great if you know what to do with it. How many speedy guys have we had on the team in the last 5-10 years who were basically useless to us? Fortin, Duclair, Stalberg, Runblad, Daley.. I know there are caveats and exceptions all over the place, but I'm all for more players on the team who are just really good at playing hockey and know what to do when.

Ok fair. I should have said something like mobile. Oduya wasn't fast but mobile and there was a time Seabrook could move laterally well enough to mash a guy into the boards tryin to take him to the outside.

I dunno man. I think it's a weird pick up but if you're been following for a minute JJ has indicated the Hawks have been looking at this guy for a while. Something they obviously like. Guess we'll see. Ive got more questions then criticism.

I'll keep posting my own views on the blackhawks and what's going on in the nhl, and proposed trades that some make sense and others don't. So if you don't like what I post skip it and move on. In essence we are all arm chair gm's and this forum is for fun and discussion sake and I'll leave it at that.
