Wow. Sharks seem particularly hooped for salary cap now. What big salary is going to get moved out/not resigned? What about Stan trying to get Hertl? Big, skilled center. - hawkitect
Donskoi a UFA. Middle 6 guy with nice fancies.

Good forward but not what this team needs, unless a few more forwards get dealt. |

Yo Zo, I asked a few scouts I bother from time to time on the Twitter the same question. You take the #1 D or the #1C and they all said D. I'm in the Chunk camp, I think. A centerman covers every inch of all 3 zones and takes faceoffs. He can stop an attack in the Ozone and neutral zone better than a Dman can.
But the new age Dman is the trigger. Very very few have the poise, speed of thought, vision and or feet and skill to get the thing the hell out of the Dzone while under crazy pressure to not only relieve pressure but start an attack.
Tough call........... - Mr Ricochet
This is a fun one to debate because you have multiple player aspects to consider all at the same time (speed, board play, defensive awareness, offensive ability, time on ice, etc). My contention is that you can make up for not having an elite D-man with scheme (as long as everyone buys in). It’s a bit harder to find that center who control some the ice on virtually every shift. |

Wow just watched a interview with that Byram kid ,got a real bad vibe from him . Cocky as all get out ,got trouble written all over him .Hard pass on that kid .It back to Cozens or Dach for me . - oldduffman
One person’s cockiness is another person’s swagger. Personally I don’t have a problem with it at all:

I am glad Kane was never arrogant when he was 18. Maybe the Hawks should have stayed away from him back in 2007. - ChicagoHope

That question is also in a vacuum. Really you have to consider need as well........ And to counter your argument you can use a scheme for lack of offensive talent as well, the trap.
Really you give a real professional coach a roster and he'll develop a scheme to accentuate its strengths and minimize its weaknesses.
I'm on the fence but gun to my head I take the centerman. He has the most responsibilities of all hockey players and covers the most ice from endline to endline. |

Hmmm... that was not me.
... and I don't think I would trade Strome and DeBraincat for Marner. That doesn't really help Toronto and their salary cap issues for the future either.
I think Marner gets signed at the expense of a lot of guys - Kadri, Zaitsev, Marleau, Johnsson, Kapanen, Brown... all on that list of potential casualties. - Tyler Cameron
Must have been second city that had that. I think it was Drastl and dman. |

Imagine if Zegras gets a Chicago zip code. His scouting report compares his style to P Kane. Would appear to be the same player making same type of plays. Excrot Zegras is said to be more aggressive than Kane. Now that gets my attention.
Zegrass likely gets the attention of some team shortly after Chicago has made their selection.
I am curious where both Zegrass and Caufield land. Both could post some impressive numbers once they skate on NHL ponds. Zegrass is headed to one of either BC or BU. Might he become a teamatte of the third round Chicago choice who is a forward and was injured most of tbe past season. Look for some gaudy numbers from them. |

If you are playing JR A Tier 1 Hockey, you have to have self confidence, which can come across as arrogance to be successful.
Doug Wilson must be banking on Karlsson retiring before his contract ends, which is the out for older players getting contracts with terms longer than make sense. There probably is some economic incentive for the player to retire. Look at the Seabrook contract and you will see that starting this year he takes a pay cut. To be an NHL GM must require a lot of praying. |

People are freaking out needlessly. Stan has lots of options!
1. Send Gus and Mitchell to Detroit for Bertuzzi and Joe Veleno.
2. Move the 3rd overall and Beaudin for Edmonton’s 8th and Oscar Klefbom. Use the 8th to draft Turcotte, Cozens, Zergas or Boldy, whoever is available.
3. Move AA to Car for a 4th.
4. Sign UFA Paquette for 4 years and 2.3 million per year.
Hawks upgrade significantly at defense, as Klefbom is a good #2 and would theoretically pair well with Boqvist when he is ready.
Hawks also add a nice center prospect in Veleno, and Bertuzzi, who is a tryout as he is off the books next year, adds a “ Shaw style” game a team that needs it.
Paquette is sneaky good. I think he scores more goals playing with better team mates and is one the leagues best defensive centers.
Bertuzzi - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Kubalik
Saad - Paquette - Sikura
Kampf Harkarainnen Cigguala
Perlini
Keith - Klefbom
Matta - Jokiharu
Murphy - Seabrook
Dahlstrom
Pipeline is then rich at D still with:
Boqvist, Joki.
Center/forward:
Veleno, 8th pick

I'll keep posting my own views on the blackhawks and what's going on in the nhl, and proposed trades that some make sense and others don't. So if you don't like what I post skip it and move on. In essence we are all arm chair gm's and this forum is for fun and discussion sake and I'll leave it at that. |

Often the trade proposals just aren't going to happen. Sometimes the proposals are a what if a Marner really was traded - what does this exchange look like.
Your ideas are sensible and worthwhile. In fact they are realistic enough to not happen.
My preferance is to allow prospects to develop and play nhl THEN you can make trades. Mitchell.and Beaudin, both lightweights as far as physical play goes, are also going to become at least average to above average in playing defense. If this.is seen at the NHL level then you can make trades of greater impact
Just saying. Your ideas are sound. |
