Dreger on TSN1050 says Kevin Cheveldayoff was really boxed in, Trouba made it abundantly clear there were only specific teams he would go to, Trouba’s list wasn’t 10 teams long or even 5 teams long, Dreger believes it was 1 or 2 teams long.

I hate when players do this. I hate NTC as well. Players become FA they can sign anywhere they want.

Remember this next time you say we on this board are the ones who have an overinflated opinion of the Rangers

It's not us. We're just saying what players around the league believe for whatever reasons. The ones who can write their own ticket want to go there, even when the team's not at the top, and this isn't the first time they've gotten a good deal because of demands like this.

That also means it's a lock he signs in New York.

It's a different sport and I know the Rangers have had more success but NBA players do not flock to MSG. I do not get why so many hockey players are obsessed with the Rangers and especially when it has not exactly worked out well over the years and the Rangers are not getting to a lot of Cups?

Because it's in NYC for a franchise that has been stable forever and every player that leaves there says how much respect they had for them because they were treated like ultimate professionals.
Isles can't touch that.

I cannot blame players for picking the Rangers over the Isles especially before Lou and Barry but other teams treat their players very well and have had more success than the Rangers. Dolan seems more involved with Basketball than hockey but it's very interesting NBA players have stayed away from the Knicks and it's still NY and all the opportunities.

NHL and NHLPA meeting today. Among topics, next years cap projection. Some believe the cap will be around $82 mil. A lower cap means lower escrow. Obviously, teams with cap issues were hoping it would be closer to $83 mil. Should be finalized this week.

That's good news for the Isles if they can exploit a team with cap issues. San Jose is in deep doodoo

This would be nice chief but it seems we've heard for the longest time the Cap is going down and it does not seem to happen. Hope Lou makes a deal ahead of the draft.

When has anyone heard it's going to go down? All this is saying is that it's not going to rise as much as they hoped.

I always love the "we suck" compared to the Rangers Isles fans. "stable forever"?! They are the cubs of hockey. There were 6 teams in the league for over 40 years and they couldn't win a cup. They had 2 teams show up in their backyard and rattle off 7 cups as their "stable Forever" franchise wept... They are run by the firggin Dolan's. Anyone who has to commute to NYC will tell you how much fun it is to jackarse into that cesspool during the week. You are either on mass transit that is slow as sht, always has issues, and never has enough seats.. or you are rotting in Traffic forever no matter what time. ... Oh you want to live in the city like "the King"... enjoy the extra 4% tax over the already absurd NY state tax of 8.82%. ....

Yeah.. I am sure all the Ranger's players in Tampa feel like they were treated like Ultimate professionals.. lol

Maybe wishful thinking on my part? It's similar to the talk every year that this is the year we see many trades and it does not seem to work out. Last years draft was the biggest bore. I need to see now before I believe it. Other sports seem to have big time FA's available and hockey seems to have many of the big players locked up before they get to FA.

$83M is the max it can rise to. Doesn't mean it will.

Multiple teams I’ve spoken to are very concerned about this cap forecast. Many fear that when the NHL and NHLPA settle on an upper limit this week, it will be LESS than $82M for next season, or an increase of only slightly more than $2M.

Whether we like it or not, there is this pull with hockey players wanting to play for the Rangers. Maybe Basketball players are smarter and they do not care about MSG and the World Greatest arena? You would think the way the Knicks are talked about 24/7 that players would be flocking to sign with the Knicks and in Basketball two start players you are set. It's much tougher in hockey building a winner. It is what it is and the Isles just have to take care of business.

Maybe you just answered your own question. Nobody wants to play for Dolan. He's not involved with the Rangers, so they don't mind playing for the Rangers.

Still strange John as Dolan is still owner of both. In Basketball you get two star players even Dolan cannot mess it up. It's still MSG and it's not like hockey players get the good MSG and Basketball gets bad the bad MSG. This is not about Islanders vs. Rangers and I cannot blame players staying away from the Isles before Lou and Barry. NHL has better teams than the Rangers who treat their players just as good.

It's all about the Isles improving the top 6 forwards for me.

Agreed, isles need more snipers, but w/flyers adding 2 RH dmen in Braun/Nisk is very good to go w/Ghost/Provo is a solid top 4. Plus have cap space left

He's a fine player, but not sure the Flyers trading a 2nd and 3rd is really a smart move for a 1 year rental of a 32yo defenseman
