mrniftee, I want either Laine or Marner flanking Mathew Barzal. I'm willing to part with our next four low (23 and higher) first round draft picks. I'm not interested in Panarin, but wouldn't mind Duchene as our second line C. Not happy with Nelson returning, and would like to see General Lee move on, so that we could use that money to sign Duchene. What say you?

Well I’d argue that that is... arguable.

Any one of those latter 1st rounders could be the next Boeser, Aho, Pastrnak, Connor or Chabot. And even if none of those picks turn out as such, trading them still guts your organization of future high end talent for a significant period.

Perhaps worth it in the short run, but very risky from a long term organizational standpoint.

- Wildschwein

Or.........Any one of those latter 1st rounders could be the next Ryan O'Mara, Petteri Nokaleinen, Robert Nilsson, etc.
If i'm Louuuuuuu, I make a run for either Laine or Marner. Both are known commodities, whereas draft picks are a crap shoot.

I'm sure once in awhile you must have a coherent thought. Refrain from commenting until that happens. Did you even read what you wrote? If none of the 4 first round picks turn out to be worthwhile picks, than how does trading them still gut our organization of future high end talent for a significant period? If they didn't pan out within our organization, or the club we traded them to for Laine or Marner (via an offer sheet), how does that negatively impact our team? Answer, it doesn't.

All this Ladd chatter is funny, guy stinks and believe he may be on IR for the year which is a $5.5m break
- Hell_Bent

I don’t think his bonus money would come off so just like buying him out it really isn’t any help. Even if it did I believe you only get LTIR relief once the Islanders are over the spending cap and need the relief. Though I’m probably wrong as always.

Was Barzal 16th overall. Lee 6th round? Yeah 4 first rounders is nothing.

Even the great Bill Torrey, at the end of his Islanders tenure, had made poor first round picks, both high and low. Bottom line, i'd rather have Marner, or Laine, flanking Barzal, than taking a crap shoot on future 1st rounders, picked in the mid to high twenties.

You're obviously a chowdahhead/garth shmoe fan. It figures. You're also the newest member of the mental midget mafia on this site. Last year, we had a haul at the draft. We'll develop that crew, and get help for Mathew Barzal, in the form of offer sheeting Laine or Marner. They will grow old together, during their prime years in Islanders blue, orange, and white. To have them together, for ten years, while winning Stanley Cups in our new arena, would be awesome. I realize it's difficult for a walking monument to ineptitude, like yourself, to comprehend.

Was listening to NHL radio yesterday Dave pagnotta was on and he was listing the percentages of players to play at least 175 games in the NHL. Was broken down 1-5 5-10 and so on for the 1st round and then by round and after the 4th round on it was the same. That said the first rounders almost all played that many games it was pretty high Point is most first rounders at least play and to give up 4 in a row would be extremely tough to do. Also we dont know the isles will be that low they could regress and be much higher too.

I dont see them offer sheeting marner or laine to that high of a number where they give up 4 picks either. I'd love them but we are talking top 5 to 10 player league wide monetarily speaking and those guys aren't worth that to me.

Laine scores a ton and we need that but his d blows but maybe barry can get him to play better like ovie. I like marner as well but not at 11 million per year over 7. If they are going to spend that I'd prefer panarin as he only costs the money and not the picks.

Will be interesting to see what lou does and I think he will make a splash one way or another. Time will tell, if he did land one of those guys it would be huge but the draft is how you build a team these days and it's how teams are able to move out expensive ufas for cheaper rfas under team control

Yup, after Jimmy D. left, Torrey's picks went downhill. No question drafting is a crapshoot, but we're talking 4 chances, not 1 or 2. Sometimes, you hit in craps.

I doubt Lou is going the direction of an offer sheet. They're not frequently done.

And, by the way, you're right about Laine's defense. Not only did his production drop a lot last season, but his +/- went from +8 to -24.

Dude there’s a reason why there has been 1 offer sheet since the last CBA so get a grip on yourself and don’t pull it too hard. I mean it’s nice to imagine this shat I agree but 4 first round draft choices are stupid to give up, sorry.
Mental midget mafia, are you BDGallof? We are called the Group Think Mafia.
I have been here forever, but it’s great to read your hyperbole on here, I mean it’s great to get a good laugh in Dailey.
