Sign Santa Claus to be backup for all I care, the backup doesn’t see the playoffs and that’s where we need to be better.

Ek should be the Leafs backup goalie. He grew up with his mom throwing tennis balls at his head in the living room. Plus he makes backyard rinks each winter. And he talks to GMs and owners all the time. He's more than qualified. He also saved the Preds. Turned down Shania Twain for a date. Attended 13 Stanley Cup Celebrations and drove Claude Giroux around Philadelphia. |

What's with all the talk about a cap crunch? With Marleau and Zietsev gone there's plenty to sign a couple of defencemen and a backup. |

If Sparks is not going to be your back-up next season, for obvious reasons, then you need to bring in a more veteran/experienced guy, who wont cost you more than $1 Million. Reality is, Leafs cant afford to spend any more than that, for the back-up Goalie position.
So, who realistically, can the Leafs look to bring in, who is an experienced back-up, for a million dollars, or less (who is better than Sparks)?
1. Curtis McElhinney - At 36, he is a solid back-up goalie that knows his role, and is very capable to step-up when called-upon. getting a bit long in the tooth could be a bit concerning, but a 1 year deal at $1 Million is very realistic.
2. James Reimer - Bought out by the Panthers, so he could sign for a million per, since he is also being paid by Florida. He loved his time in Toronto, so this could be a nice reunion for both parties.
3. Brian Elliott - Newmarket boy. Could be a nice fit. has experience starting, but knows he is a back-up now. At 34 years old, playing for his childhood team could be a very good match. $1 Million should def get him signed.
4. Keith Kinkaid - the 30 year old made $1.25 Mill last season, so to get him at a million could be a bit difficult. Solid back-up.
5. Calvin Pickard - After being claimed, Pickard struggled last season. From Phil, he was moved to Arizona. His save percentage was under .900 last season. Pickard would probably sign for $650-$750K. |

fun read
https://theathletic.com/1...es-auston-matthews-money/
On an eight-year deal that factors his current value, how he likely ages and modest salary cap inflation (3.75 percent per year), Marner will likely provide $95.6-million worth of value or $12-million per season on the open market. (Matthews would be at $12.9-million per season, McDavid would be at $15.5-million). |

People covering the parade- "We got some breaking news for you, and you're really gonna like it. Drake is set to play a few songs at Nathan Phillip Square".
Not gonna lie, that's not good news to me. |

Won't be Doug Wilson's problem when he's fired in 2 years after not winning the Cup. |

I know it's early in that it hasn't even been made official yet, but this has all the makings of a Marian Hossa "Jock Itch" injury. |
