2019 Trouba = 2010 Phaneuf
If you want to trade a bucket-load for that guy to build your blueline around, you're gonna have trouble keeping pucks out of your net and trouble making the PO's. His two-way acumen is completely theoretical. He's a physical offensive defenseman, with a noticeable me-first streak. |

Well, I found yesterday to be anti-climatic after the end of the week. I'm interested to see what sort of shenanigans Fletch will get up to this week. I know there are two weeks til we can shop UFAs but based on nothing but a feeling and watching Fletcher move, I think we have a new 2C, here by this time next week. I think he is not looking to go UFA but rather go trade route. I think it may hurt a bit this time. Nothing he has done so far REALLY hurt. Was hard to lose Simmer but not sure what he has left. Plus, he had an offer from the Flyers which he turned down. I think it takes one or two players, picks or prospects we like to get the 2C. - jaws1955
What was the offer Simmonds turned down?
I hadn’t heard this.

GD goaltender graveyard. Or G UFAs are Nuevy, Talbot, and Elliott. Good lord. Let's bring in someone fresh to help Hart. Most likely won't be a "sexy" UFA but we need 25-35 starts and good health. |

Further to @TSNBobMcKenzie's report on Erik Karlsson, I'm told the deal is indeed done: 8 years max deal, north of $11 million per season... the Sharks with a huge move in keeping the superstar D from hitting the market.

I think Trouba is going to stay in Winnipeg this year and walk out next summer as UFA and the Jets will get nothing back.
They are expecting way too much in a trade for a guy with one year left to UFA. |

Damn.
I thought they were low on cap space. So wonder if that means Pavelski is gone - J35Bacher
LeBrun saying "north" of $11 per.
I've warmed to the idea of going after Pavelski. Not sure if he has said anything about playing elsewhere but we should pursue. |

I'm not saying it's GOING to happen...but I would have kept him, given him a few more games down the stretch to see if he'd have been a legit NHL backup to Hart for this season.
We seem to have the AHL/ECHL spots filled, but we're still missing our NHL backup. |

Don’t think it is ideal for Usti to be in the echl.
Wonder if they look to loan him or Lyon out ? |

Admittedly, I am not all that familiar with Trouba's game. I've only seen him a few times and read about what other "experts" say his potential is. I like his size, age, TOI, and fact that he plays PP. I felt that he would continue to develop along with our group.

It's a general statement. There are always some players who last longer. Some players are done at 30, some earlier, some later. Looking at the generational superstars is not really the best example. Even Gretzky's skills eroded later in his career. - MJL
Except they didn't. He didnt just forget how to shoot, pass, stick handle, make smart plays. These are all mental skills. You dont lose these until your mind starts to go which can happen with concussions. Players retire because their bodies cant keep up, the wear and tear is significant on the body. They lose their speed, endurance and sometimes physical ailments that prevent you from making specific movements. This happened with ad ani used to play with. His hip went and now he cant play anymore because he cant move like he used to without pain. He still has all his skills |

I could get behind it depending on cost. He's 34 coming off a 5 year 6 per contract. So does he stay around the 6 per.

For a first and a young player plus an A prospect?
He would need to be signed long term for that kind of trade. And Jets are not letting other teams speak to his agent. It’s too much risk that he walks after one year and he’s going to be really overpaid on his UFA deal.

Most of what I've seen Fletcher do so far is determine which players he does not see on the team long term and start to move them. I'll be fascinated to see what direction they head in.
I couldn't stand Gudas when we first got him. But last year he really began to put things together. To be honest, I'll miss him - and I never, ever thought I'd say that. |

1) You are not even remotely reading my comment properly
2) I specifically said i was half their age so no its not 60 year olds playing 60 year olds. Its a mix of ppl between 20 years to 60
3) No one is comparing them to NHL players but if you really want to, i have enough skill to be a professional player. I lack the discipline to train my body to peak form. Most likely AHL level
4) My point is that these 60 year olds have a lot of skill despite their age and those skills are no worse than they were previously, which proves skills dont erode. It is the body that physically erodes which causes body aches, reduced speed and energy.
Im not sure how to make this any more clearer - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Bringing up anyone playing hockey in their 60’s is a bad argument. Bringing up future hall of fame players like Chara in comparison to Niskanen is a bad argument.
Niskanen was apart of a Stanley Cup winning defense. Niskanen wont be coming to this Philadelphia. |

Not many players worth $88M in today's NHL, but Karlsson is one of them. |

Guys like Jagr, Lidstrom, Gretzky, Selanne etc were great stick-handlers and passers up until they retired.
If the legs didn't go on some of these guys, and their bodies could still recover from all the abuse, we'd probably see more guys pull Gordie Howes. - Tomahawk
Why do people go right to the hall of fame players to make their points? |

Or, just tell us your name and let us look up your junior/NCAA numbers like that WSCTeton17 guy from the Pens boards. |

If NYR or NYI really want him, it will happen. Not sure what pieces they have to offer but Jets will need to get something for him. This has been an on-going pissing contest for the past few seasons. |

Different sport but the Raptors took the risk and it worked out.
I think the price drops a little and you see a 1st rounder and youngish cheap roster player. |

I'd argue that he WAS one of them. Not sure he still is.
Definitely worth more than Toews, though. |

San jose has Burns at 8 per, Vlasic at 7 per and ow Karlsson at 11.
All with multiple years and over 30.
